2008 BKB Spring Brew - Kolsch - Brewing thread
sorry, i think it was in the Mass brewday posting i stated i wouldnt be able to make it, if you dont want to or dont have the brew to swap thats OK im sure someone else might want to, i agree with the cost of shipping so i really dont want to exchange with more than 3 people.
I'll swap with BrewLuva via the mail, no problem.
I'll also bring plenty to the MA swap meet!
Skervy and Rooster , be expecting a package in the next few days. Shipped UPS. Enjoy!
I used Pilsen DME, Hallertaur hops and the Kolsch yeast from Wyeast. Fermented at the high end of the scale ( 66 degrees) and then secondary was at 38. It has been cold conditioning for about three weeks now. Scored a 37 at the Mid South Extravaganza last week.
DC- Had yours last night. Very Nice. Seemed lighter & smoother than mine, better carb.
Might be that you used pale wheat & I used Red. My Tettnang was 4.3% AA, might have been higher than your Hall & EKG. Also, I usually rinse my hops into the fermenter w/ cold water when filling to 5-1/2gal.
Sending mine out tonight via US mail. I might throw in a bottle of ginger snap ale to make up for my not so spectacular kolsch....
Brewluva, I can send you a few brews too. My Kolsch didn't really come out much of a Kolsch, so I'll throw in a couple others too, depending on what I have left in the fridge right now.....

Why rinse the hops with cold water? what does it do? loved the flavor of your beer. Does rinsing the hops with cold water intensify the hops flavor, lock it in?

I don't use hop bags in my boil, so I strain the cooled wort into the fermenter. Being a frugal brewer, I can't stand the thought that I would lose any of my hard earned fermentable sugars, so I rinse/sparge the hops with cold water. I probably get just a little bit more "hoppiness" as a result.
brewchez and ricka182, i sent your beer out today 2 Kolsch and 2 of my current IPA, i wanted to send more but 4 is all i could fit safely into the boxes i had on hand
Brewluva:
That is kickass. I plan to reciprocate with a Kolsch and IPA as well.
hmmmm great brewers think alike.
