2008 BKB Spring Brew - Kolsch - Brewing thread

Cool man.  I'm picking up the beer to ship from my brew buddy tonight.  Should have it out tomorrow afternoon....

Skervy, Bull the  recipe I used was a little different than the original due to the fact that my roommate was making the same batch...

4# Light LME
.5 # Wheat Malt
.5# Vienna Malt
.5# Aromatic Malt
1# Rice Syrup Solids
1 oz Spalt 60 min.
1 oz Spalt 45 min.
WLP029
OG 1.045
FG 1.007

Cheers!!

Sounds good Rooster! I am looking forward to trying a few. That is the point of this whole exercise ( tasting what fellow brewers have crafted). Personally I can't wait for the next community brew.

Skervy, got your package and yes it was the Brown Ale. Lot's of malt flavor which is more my style anyway ( to many hoppy beers out there these days ) so I am enjoying one right now.

Brewluva, got your beers the other day.  I have to say the Koslch is fantastic!!  Good flavor and aroma, overall profile was really good.  I hope my Kolschs don't suck that bad.  They're just like yours, except darker and more bitter....I haven't had a chance to try the IPA yet, but I will probably this weekend.....I'll have yours out today or Monday....

thanks, did it clear up a bit, i thought it was still a little cloudy

i cant wait to get someone elses to compare it to, i dont think ive ever had a kolsch before, if i have its been awhile

Yeah, it was pretty clear.  Much clear than mine for sure.  I let it sit in the fridge for a few hours before I popped it, so it had time to settle out.....I can guarantee mine isn't a Kolsch for some reason.  It's more of a lager type.  I'm not 100% sure where it went wrong, but it still turned out pretty good overall.....

Brewski and DC, my brews are finally on the way.  Would have sent a pm but both of your inboxes are full.

I hope you enjoy, sorry for taking so long, been busy with a bunch of random stuff lately.

Got the brown ale too, tasted awesome.

I tasted Brewluva's Kolsch and a bonus IPA last night.

the kolsch was fantastic.  Great softness in the mouthfeel.   There was a great breadiness and grainy flavor that carried over very well from the aroma and the flavor.  This is the true heart of a good Kolsch.
It pushes the limit on its color, being a little darker than expected, but it had near brilliant clarity with a good satin like head to it.

The IPA was also a very great drinkable beer.  A good caramel malt character came through in the flavor with a nice grapefruit finish in as it warmed a bit.  Overall a great drinking beer.

Brewluva, mine will be in the mail this week/weekend.

Quad-
Got yours this afternoon, while I was gone.  Jeez man, they must have been playing soccer with that box, not a square corner on it.
2 bottles survived, and will have to settle for a while.  The other was half empty, but the cap was still on.  Go figure.

I'll report on your fine brew, sir, when it is a proper time to quaff it.  tongue
