2008 BKB Spring Brew - Kolsch - Brewing thread
I took a gravity reading today. Brew has been fermenting since sunday. OG was 1.045. It has cleared already and little airlock activity so I took a gravity reading to see if it's ready for transfer to 2ndary. The reading was 1.012. Pretty close. It is lighter than I thought. Taste excellent. No wine or sulphur taste. Didn't use a kolsch yeast. WLOO1 was going to be the yeast but didn't get temp up to required temp so I went with Muntons premium dry. Fernents clean at a better temp range (55-75).
So is there anyone brewing this from minnesota besides me?

I'm hoping to brew this soon...my schedule isn't looking hopeful, but its next on my list.
just made my starter last night
Just brewed 13 gallons hit 1.050, High side of profile but within it. OK w/ dat. I'm used to brewing .070-.090 beer it was nice carrying out the mash tun to dump w/ only 21#of spent grain. Pitched at 3pm, and I got some ferm already chugging.
We just racked over to a secondary, and put the bucket in a cooler room. I think the temp there is steadyat around 50, maybe a little cooler at night. OG was 1.049, FG was 1.018, giving 4.1% abv....I think that's still in range. Either way, it will good enough to drink many....I have had many today so far....I tried the Sam Adams Longshot mixpack. The Grape Pale Ale is awesome! The Weizenbock, is more of an acquired taste...one I haven't acquired much yet.....I also picked up a six of Leines Honey Weiss, which sounds really good.....oh well...I'll let the Kolsch sit for a week or two, then check it, and bottle it up.......
Brewed tonight, looks like im a little short on my OG, 1.040. hopfully will make up for it on the other end.
Just racked mine last night to secondary and dropped to ~54F to "lager" .... beer will stay for at least 1-2 weeks till I use polyclar to clear the beer and bottle. Saved the yeast culture for latter use. During primary, krausen was ejected through the blow off. How is everyone else coming along. We need to start picking our trade partners and setting a date for exchange. Whoever has the list please tell me whom I am trading with.
My krausen was nasty. It covered the bucket inside on top, and almost solidified.....like I said, nasty. I had to use a spatula to get rid of it so I could get my siphoin in to rack over....
I don't think we have an official list for the exchange program. If everyone interested can post their city and state, I can make a list based on keeping down costs. Here is what I have for the xchange. Please add your name if you want in and are not already on the list...
