2008 BKB Spring Brew - Kolsch - Brewing thread

Cheers!

The purpose of this thread is to post updates for your version of the 2008 BKB community brew for Spring.  We used another thread to brainstrom and create our recipe, and we can continue to use that thread for recipe stuff, questions, comments etc....

Here's my progress report:

02-02-08 - Stupid groundhog see shadow, still haven't bought any ingredients yet.  Will do so during the week.

Update: my all grain system isnt finished yet.. looks like im either doing a 2.5 gallon batch or a partial

update:  spring doesn't come to WI till may... no spring brew for me for a while, I need my winter warmers!!

With me being the the newb, could someone please post the 'Official Recipe'?

It is posted under the original thread for this project...

It is the first post on that page.  There is an AG and extract version.....

Just ordered my hops online: SPALT!!!! I ordered 4oz. Also I will be upping the grain bill on the wheat and  less on the Pilsner. I will be using wyeast 2565. Finally plan to clear if necessary with Polyclar. Brew date set for next weekend.

Check page 5 for the style notes I entered. That will help with appropriate yeast, grain and hop substitutions/ modifications.

I just got my order in.  Tettnang was the only available hop on our list of acceptables.
So, after tweaking with Beer Tools, looks like I'm doing-

8oz  Briess Munich 10
8oz  Midwest Red Wheat Malt
5-1/4 Briess Light DME
1.5 oz Tettnang  (3.5%) 60min
.5 oz Tettnang  (3.5%) 45min.

O.G.  1.046
F.G    1.009
4.40 SRM
24.3 IBU
ABV 4.9%

Probably get 'er into the primary early next week.
I was limited to 3 oz of hops per type, and 10oz total on an order

i've ordered my supplies, should arrive by monday

Hmmm.  I get paid Friday and was planning on ordering then anyhow.  I'm in.

Ok, got my supplies. Here's my recipe I will be brewing this saturday. Using hops on hand for $ reason. SRM is a little high due to using Alexander Pale LME but will add some 3/4 way through to try to keep as light as possible.

8 oz German light Munich
8 oz German pale Wheat
4 lbs Alexander Pale LME
2 lbs light DME
1/8th pd cane sugar

1 oz Mt Hood 4.2 AA 75 min
.1/4 oz EKG 5.5 AA 50 min

WLOO1 California Ale yeast

OG: 1.049
TG: 1.009
SRM: 5.72
IBU: 25.1
Alch: 5.2

Only other hops I have on hand is Target but discription says it has strong aroma. EKG is listed as mild fruity and mt hoods is listed as a halleteur replacement. Local supply only has crystal on hand and thir hops tend to be pretty old. Changing the mt hood from 60 bmin to 75 min boosted IBU by about 2 IBU and allowed my to reduce EKG from 60 to 50 min maybe lessening any noticable addition from the ekg. Without the ekg the iby is only 20.1.
