2008 SUMMER COMMUNITY BREW

Well I opened a bottle of the summer brew today and it's not bad. I did away with the corriander, just used the orange peel, and I used the cry havoc yeast this time. It fermented at about 75 degrees but stil lcame out very nice. Turned out to be a very mild easy drinking beer.totally different than the same recipe but did away with the corriander and used a different yeast. Amazing what a different beer you'll get that way.

DC

I had one of my last Spiced Ales yesterday, considerably better aged.  The spiced seemed to have mellowed a great deal.  Maybe try it again next summer, cut back on the spices & let 'er rest for a while.

I entered mine into a competition that took place a couple of weeks ago.  I entered it in the Spiced, Herb, Vegetable Beer category and even though it was really under spiced it still scored a 29 overall.  The judges noticed the rye (even though I forgot to list in under the ingredients) and said it needed to be increased.  I don't think I'm going to use orange zest when I make it again and I'll probably end up using lemon zest.  Overall, not bad and a lot of non craft brew drinkers that I know like it.
