1.00 lb Brown Malt

Same hops, yeast, coffee, lactose, and vanilla bean instructions

Mash (think steep) 5.75 lbs of grain in a grain bag in 2 gallons of water at 150 degrees F for 60 minutes.

Remove grains and sparge (rinse) with 3 gallons of 168 degree F water or as much water as your set up can handle.  Add any additional water to your kettle to reach your pre boil volume.

These are the steps I would have followed when I was brewing partial mashes.  I'm posting them to help out anyone new to partial mashing.  If you brew extract you can brew using partial mashes!  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

A couple good guides to partial mashing:
BYO: Counter top partial mashing
BYO: Beer the Partial Mash way
Beersmith: Partial Mashing

If you absolutely cannot do a partial mash or don't feel comfortable, don't worry, use the recipe listed and just make sure to "steep" your grains in the 150F range with roughly the amount of water listed for 30-60 minutes and you'll be OK.

Looks great!  It'll be a few weeks before I'll get to it but I can't wait.

I'm going to get my starter going tomorrow night and plan on brewing on Saturday.

Can't wait for this one!!  Sounds really great! Might be able to do it this weekend.

A week from now for me.  Can't wait.

darn rain.  was going to brew this today.

Well. my one week turned into two, but the brew day is here finally.  Did I mention I was more than ready for this brew?  We will see if that was actually true.

FINALLY brewing this one up!  Strike water is almost up to temp and I'll be doughing in in a few minutes.

you'll love this beer.  I've had several people tell me this one came out great.

Glad to hear it Hogarthe.  I really wish I had been able to bang this one out much sooner but at least its still technically Fall.

The mash tasted awesome -- sweet and chocolaty, and the wort smelled of black coffee.

I undershot my OG by 6 points; I don't think I've been off by that much before.  Not sure what happened but hopefully it won't affect my FG too much.  If it ends up a little low then I'll just boil up the rest of the lactose with my priming sugar when bottling.

Man this one's a ssslllloooooowwww ferment.  The temps a bit cool downstairs; the beer has been fermenting at 64 and I added a heating pad and wrapped it in a down vest to bring up the temp to 66.  Can't wait to try this one.
