I need a stout
I have tried Guinness a couple times and had to force myself to drink it. I had one by bells years ago that reminded me of concentrated juice (Add contents to 3 bottles of water stir and serve). I have had a few others along the way and was never impressed.
I am begining to have a real appreciation for Dogfish Head as I haven't tried anything of their's yet that I didn't absolutely love. I realy enjoyed their chickory stout and would like a recipe that resembles that kind of stout whether it has chickory and coffee or not. I just liked the smothness of the beer and the balanced flavors. Can anyone recommend a recipe that embodies those qualities?
How about a Licorice Stout.....out of Sam's book........There is an Imperial Stout in it also......
I brew and drink a lot of Oatmeal stout.
I'd share the recipe, but I just revamped it completely. I will brew it soon, if its anygood then I'd be willing to share.
I just bottled a recipe I took off another board for quiet storm stout. The originator won 1st place 3 years ago, and everyone who has brewed it thanks him immensely, Coming out of the secondary it was one of the best beers (even green) I have ever tasted. I passed the hydrom jar around to my 2 buddies and their wives everone took a sip and agreed. Also brewed my hopscotch Imp IPA and hit the OG exact. Dosn't sound like too much to brag about until I say we lost power during the boil so the last 2 hours of brew night was done by truck headlights, candles and flashlights. The power came back on when I was cooled to 90 deg, so at least I got to finish in the basking of very thankful glorious light! recipe follows, if you brew it, make sure you toast jimvy on brewboard for his award winner.

Licorice Stout? I will have to check it out when I get a chance to look the book over.
Brewchez I would like that when you get it nailed down.
Thanks for the Quiet Storm Stout recipe, that sounds very interesting. I will Give it a try on a five gallon basis.
I still want to brew an octoberfest and have it conditioned in time for my friends' holloween partys, then I will get to the stout. Right now I have three brews in the primary fermenters so I am on hold for at least a few days.
Hope my Kegging system gets here and is set up in time so I don't have to bottle all this beer. ![]()
Hey if anyone else has a Stout recipe that is the next best thing to liquid sunshine please feel free to post it. I've been waiting over ten years to start this hobby and I don't see myself quiting anytime before I'm dead.

Well I checked out Sam's book and was disappointed to see that it pretty much an extract brewing book. I am geared toward all grain brewing, can anyone tell me how to convert extract recipes to all grain? Thanks!
Thirsty
I plan to try that stout before the new year is here. I don't know who's new year party I am going to, but I will be taking some good beer with me. - Robar
