Aluminum vs Stainless Steal kettles
So I bought an aluminum kettle to heat my sparge water up I will never boil in this. Is there really a difference between aluminum and stainless steal in this regards. Thanks
Actually you should condition the kettle by boiling in it for at least ten minuetes. The alluminum will develop a black color on the inside and then it's ready to cook in. You should not scrub this black layer off or clean it with an oxidizing cleaner (like Oxy clean) because it is protective of the alluminum that can get in your wort.
Other people will bake their alluminum pots at first for ten min at 350* but then you get the black on the outside as well.
Here is a longer discussion on homebrewtalk.com that you should read on the subject.
