Another high gravity question
Thanks for the heads up on the hops, picked them up yesterday along with some other
goodies, their homebrew supply truck came in the other day, so I stocked up on some stuff.
The clone I did yesterday, the recipe calls for dry hopping, but it says to use pellets.
So...whats the difference?
More flavor out of the leaf, or better suspension?
I usually dry hop with whole as well and no do not boil them! You are looking for that clean crisp fresh hop flavor not the bittering effects. I have dry hopped with pellets once and surprisingly it turned out very good. Pellets are easier to dry hop with because they settly in your fermentor and you can just rack right off of the top of them. With whole I'm always trying to figure out the best way to get left over juice that the hops have absorbed. That being said I'm still going to dry hop with whole. Seems like the best way to get that "fresh" flavor. Just made an Imperial IPA last night with an OG of 1.101 and I used two Wyeast 1056. Going like a rocket already this morning. I've read that with a high gravity beer when your fermentation slows down you can revive your yeast by swirling your fermentor a couple times a day to keep the yeast active.
