Beer Crisis
So I just go home from work today and decided to take a look at my resent Black IPA I brewed. Brewed this beer on Tuesday evening btw, normal 6-10hr and started to get bubbling in my air lock, same old same old. Howerer today I get home to a murder crime scene. Beer splattered on the ceiling, and the wall. enough I found the beer marks 10 feet across the room. The air lock and stopper still on my carboy, though the airlock was caked solid in beer.
Can anyone tell me what I have done to deserve this? lol. What did I do wrong is my main goal to figure out. The beer is still fermenting strong, im just at a loss of words and a huge mess to clean up after.
Well it sounds like you did one thing right...pitched plenty of healthy yeast. In the future you can us a blow off or anti foam to avoid the ceiling splatter.
First of all, don't worry, beer should be fine if it is fermenting that strongly. You just got more gas than the airlock could handle, and blew it off. Second, This will be the first and last time this happens to you, as you will use a blow off tube from now on. Just stick a tube in the top of the carboy with an attachment they sell, or get a hose that is big enough to make an airtight seal when you stuff it in the top.
Always use a blowoff tube for Primary's, if you don't you have seen the results. Your lucky actually, if your seal held, you could have turned that beer into a 5 gallon bomb in your basement. Another reason I use buckets.
Well then I am really lucky because it would have been a five gallon bomb in my bedroom carpet floor. Thanks for the info.
HA. Told my buddy our brew would be fine keep it warm in a dark spot and in four weeks we will enjoy so.... I Had a milk stout at my buddies house and his wife came home to find the bathrrom dark brown with our carboy covered in foam. Needles to say she was less than pleased. Didnt believe a thing I said after that. Now I can prove my case. it was an unforseen incident. Cause now I use anitfoam. Best stuff ever.
