Blow off tube BLEW OFF
Hi,,, I seem to have had a little problem!! My blow off tube got plugged while I was at work. I got home to a mess!! My tube blew off. I lost about half gallon of my wort. When I go to rack off, can I add water to make the 5 gallons?? Thanks for any help.
Make sure that you boil and cool the water first, if you do. But I would just leave it if it was me. I have had some blow all the hops up and out the tube and over flowed my run off jug, pretty wicked, good beer though.

Outdoorsman, are you saying when you transfer to a secondary, can you top off with water? If so, I think the general consensus is to "not" add water at that point. Usually topping off with water is done before the primary fermentation. You could probably get away with it, but why chance it...you'll only be down a few bottles....
cheers
What in the hell were you fermenting to cause it to clog? Was it a 1" tube? I have brewed several THICK fruit beers and never once had one clog. That baffles my mind.
Yes you can top it up, but you will lose a little gravity, assuming primary fermentation is still going. If primary is done, it will just dilute your beer somewhat.
