Blues n Brews 2010
Anyone going to the Blues n Brews fest this weekend? Unfortunately I can't because I have to go to a wedding on Saturday but I did enter a couple of beers in the competition.
Ah, you got my hopes up, thought you were talking about The Blues and Brew Festival in Telluride Co for a minute. Where is the one you're referring to at?
The Blues 'n Brews Fest at Nashoba Valley in MA.
Good food, beer and music. Its a pretty good time as long as you're not in the sun all day. There's a homebrew club that hosts a competition that coincides with the event.
I thought he was talking about the 2010 Blues & Brews Festival in Avondale.
Yeah, it was definitely hot in the sun when I went a couple of years back.
I didnt enter anything this year myself, I have been stoopid busy lately, but I will probably enter and judge the SNERHC in CT on Oct 3, I saw it wasnt listed on the BJCP schedule, but I got an invitation last week from the coordinator. It is a great comp that gets a few hundred entries.
Just got back from vacation, so we are skipping this year. I din't mind this fest even though I could care less about the music portion. Most years the summer sun and humidity have been horrible. Too bad I can't make it because the weather is near perfect this weekend for an outdoors fest.
Oh well, maybe next year.
Apparently they're having trouble posting results on the FOAM website but I got an email with a spread sheet this morning. I published the spread sheet in Google docs so people looking for results can check it out.
2010 Blues n Brews Homebrew Competition Results
Oh and I took 2nd in the Wheat/Rye category... pretty tough competition this year with only 4 entries. ![]()
Congrats Marc!!
Nice work! So was it a wheat or a rye? Or a wheatrye?
Its a hoppy American wheat with Citra and Amarillo. Used a kolsch yeast and it came out pretty good.

Kolsch yeast is a pretty cool yeast to experiment with actually.
Remember I put kolsch in an oatmeal stout last fall and it came out pretty good. I think I'll do another side by side with it this year again too.
I had planned on using Wyeast 1010 American wheat but my LHBS was out. I remembered reading that strain was a derivative on a kolsch strain and figured the 2565 kolsch yeast was a good substitute.
What temp did you ferment your stout at?
Congrats FPB!
I fermented on the cool side, like 65F or so.
Got my score sheets and medal in the mail today. This is the first year I've got perfectly legible comments on all of my score sheets from the BnB fest. And the comment content wasn't too bad either, as opposed to some years. Though the "could be a bit drier" comment on my 1.002 FG saison made me chuckle.
