Brewing in Seattle Take II

i am leaving town tomorrow night, won't be back till sunday late. i will have to sit this one out.

i still have that bottle of yours, adam. i'll bring it with on the 17th.

I have time for a quick beer Friday, but I've got a baseball game to get to around 7 so it can't be an all-nighter 8)

I'll make sure to have something fun in the fridge.

kewl.....I'll call you tomorrow for directions from West Seattle.  I know it's Lake City, but you'll have to tell me where to turn.

Cheers fellas!

I'LL BRING THE ROLLING ROCK!
lol

DC

OK,

So Adam and I talked about doing a honey rye in the spirit of the summer brew thread.

Here's what I'm thinking:

15-20% Rye in the grist
65% 2-row in the grist
10% carapils (dextrine)
5-10% Crystal 10L

Probably not much more than 15 IBU of noble.  Not too bitter but good aroma.

Either American Ale, Kolsh (maybe) or a good California COmmon like 2112.  The California Common yeast might be a nice touch since we could feux lager it to make it a little crisper.  That may lend well to bring out the rye in the beer.

Thoughts?

OK......so I threw a recipe together as a starting point.

Check this out and let me know what you think:

Brewer: Erock Email: -
Beer: Big Brew Take 1 Style: Honey Rye
Type: All grain Size: 11 gallons
Color: 4 HCU (~4 SRM)
Bitterness: 22 IBU
OG: 1.049 FG: 1.010
Alcohol: 5.1% v/v (4.0% w/w)
Grain: 1 lb. American crystal 10L
2 lb. Dextrine malt (Cara-Pils)
3 lb. Rye (raw)
12 lb. American 2-row
Mash: 70% efficiency
Boil: minutes SG 1.042 13 gallons
2 lb. Honey
Hops: 1 oz. Brewers Gold (8.5% AA, 60 min.)
.5 oz. Willamette (5% AA, 30 min.)
.5 oz. Willamette (5% AA, 15 min.)

That looks super good, Erock....

OK......so the east coast cats beat us to the punch and had the first big brew of 2008.  Looks liek you fellas had a great time.  Thanks for the pics.

Anyway......this is the last work week befroe we do ours.

The weather.....btw.....is supposed to be fantastic.  Sunny and 85.  THANK YOU GOD!!!  Maybe the 9 month winter is finally over.

We need to make final decisions on what we're going to brew so I can get some shizzle ordered.

I like the Rye idea, but am down for whatever.  The recipe actually looks pretty solid.

Let's have some final thoughts here.....I'd like to order the stuff no later than Wednesday.

Far as I'm concerned, let's do it.

This will be my first all-grain, so I'll be more concerned about the process than the recipe, but the nice light rye sounds good!

Are you going to bring the stuff to make the extract Vanilla Porter?  If so, are we thinkinh of just dividing up that cost?

I'll get the stuff for the Rye and I was thinking we would split that cost as well.

We should end up with 6 cases, give or take, in the end, which may casue us some division issues, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it I guess.
