Clear Beer




Wanted to share. I've been hard on getting my beer clear like a commercial brewery.  Finally kegged lasted night and achieved it.  I ve been using biofine but haven't seen great results. Wanted to share to help others.

I been using my spout of the pot after cooling my wort to transfer to the fermentor. Really makes a difference not getting all of the bottom of the wort.

Its been taken a long time to cool so I angled my wort chiller where it touches the top of the wort. Made a huge difference when I transferred it. Less junk in it.

I rack to a secondary conical with a side valve so when I keg I leave the trub in the bottom.

I cool the beer and the biofine down in the fridge before adding and I ensure I mix well when I add but not enough to add oxygen.  This also helps with adding co2 to the keg.

Just wanted to help anyone else in the search for clearer beer.



 

Never heard of biofine before.  Where do you get it?

I used to use rehydrated Irish Moss in the last 15 minutes of the boil but have started using Whirfloc instead.

In addition to that, I go for good hot and cold breaks to rid the beer of haze producing proteins.  Using a flocculant strain of yeast can do wonders too.   Other than that, keeping the beer at cold temperatures will take care of everything else and will render a crystal clear beer.

 

The last 10 gallon batch I made was in November.  It was pretty cold outside, and the hose water was running about 45 degrees.  Got a great cold break, but didn't really think anything about it.  I bottled half the batch, and kegged the other half.  This beer is supposed to be cloudy, but it's crystal clear.  No clarifying agents at all, just a great cold break.

 

I got a big bottle from my local brewery. You can  buy it from the internet from a  online brew stores.  I've been trying to get commercial quality without filtering. I bought a filter kit and its to much trouble sometimes.   I had some testers try my amber and bells amber in a glass.  You couldn't tell the difference and the picked mine over bells taste wise. I was pretty happy. I've been working hard getting it that clear and taste just right.  I've tried irish moss and everything you could think of.  This time I cool my wort the fastest I ever had and of course that helped to.
