Cold conditioning
Is anyone letting ales spend time cold prior to bottling or kegging?
Not necessarily before kegging, but I do let my some of my ales condition once in the keg at cool temps (in the 40's) prior to putting pressure on them. I don't necessarily do this, it is just that I keep them in my kegerator before I pressurize them. I don't notice much of a difference, though.
Does my cold Montana basement count? I don't think it has been above 55 down there for the past month.
I'd say it counts, I count my 45 degree garage.
I store my kegs in a room that gets near freezing...that's about as far as I go. One day I will invest in a refrigiration unit, but I would need to have a better place to do that (Extra fridge in an upstairs, already-cramped apartment? No thanks!
