Deschutes Brewery
Ok so this isn't homebrewing, but for anybody living in the Portland vicinity, or even close, Deschutes Brewery announced last month they are setting up shop in October 2007 in the Pearl District, for those who don't know, that is part of downtown Portland.
Their main headquarters is in Bend, at least 120 miles away.
They do ship their beer to several other states. If you ever had a Mirror Pond, Black Butte Porter, Cascade Ale, Obsidian Stout, or any others, they you know who I'm talking about.
I think this is going to be a brewpub, but not totally sure.
Makes me wish I was closer to Portland! I like pretty much everything I've tasted from Deschutes. My buddy and I are probably going to make a Mirror Pond clone here fairly soon (it's down the to do list a bit.) I love their Inversion IPA as well. Way to bitter even for some hop lovers I know but I think it's great.
I'll be brewing that Mirror Pond tonight. I was going to last night but ran out of energy.
I would like to do their Bachelor ESB.
I know that have seen that many of you guys are from the Pacific Northwest. I lived outside Seattle for four years so I know what you are saying when it comes to the greatness of the beer that is produced from that area. I saw this on beerdorks.com not sure if you all have seen this website yet or not. It has informative and interesting aticles and links posted on it. I now live in Indiana and yes i thought the same thing "they don't know good beer in the midwest." But they do my friend they do. This site beerdorks touts the greatness of midwest breweries and even sneeks in a few of the west & east coast guys too. I just thought that you all might find it interesting as I see a lot of beer dork in all of us.

Cheers.
PS: I really miss the Obsidian Stout & Black Butte, those had to be two of my favorites, aside from my all time favorite beer Pikes Kilt Lifter. We sould really talk about a beer exchange program. I would gladly send some mid-west brew out to the west coast for some Kilt Lifter, But that is for another thread.
I hear you wop31. I used to live near Seattle then moved to Northern Utah. Let me just say that outside of a few Utah microbreweries it's really hard to find "kind beer." I regularly drive to Idaho to get decent beer, and pretty much anytime I leave the state I search grocery stores and mom and pop gas stations to find a different variety. I'm probably going to the Tetons this weekend and believe me I'm stocking up. Several friends are trying to send lists with me. Going to hit up the Grand Teton Brewery for a tour and some of their specialty beers.
