Extra Cooler Insulation
I just finished up my first all-grain batch. During the mash my cooler was losing about 5 degrees every half hour. I noticed that my lid warmed up quite a bit. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to keep the cooler from losing as much heat?
I just added a bunch of sparay foam to the outside and underside of the lid. I'm losing 2 degrees per hour.

What kind of stuff are you talking about and where would I look to buy some? Did you do any batches before the foam so that you can compare? Thanks for the idea.
It's just spray foam insulation, any hardware store has it. I went about 2 years without the insulation and it's been on about 1 year. It definitely helps when the temps outside are in the 30's and 40's.
In the short term, you could also use some blankets. There is also the foil lined thermal wrap that you could fit on as well.
Losing temperature with a cooler? Can't say I've heard that one before. I use foam rubber around my mash tun. I bought a good sized roll of it for around $10. I just tie it on.
There are many different methods, but this has worked for me.

It can't generate it's own heat, of course it will lose temperature at some point.
