extra yeast

I did a search  and didn't find any answers to this .
I got my cider yestarday, and the champian yeast, the yeast is good for 5 gallons.
To ferment a gallon of cider I don't see any since in using all the yeast.

Now that the package is open, should I make a starter and put it in the fridge,or will it hurt anything to leave it in the package.
BTW it's a dry yeast.

I'm assuming, it won't hurt anything to leave it in package, I just want to make sure.

Marv.

If you opened the package already I'd just make a starter and you'll have that much more yeast.  I'm sure if you just sealed it up somehow it'd do fine in the fridge.  Just remember sanitation sanitation sanitation.

Thanks for the advice Brewbie.
since I'm going to do another cider as soon as this on is finished.
I'll start another culture and stick it in the fridge.

As long as you use it pretty soon, I'd just put it in a ziploc and throw it in the fridge until the next batch.
