Favorite Base Grains?

For those of you all-grain guys what is your favorite base grain?  Which one do you find yourself using the most often with the best results?  I know different styles call for different grains, but what is your personal favorite?

I pretty much use American 2 Row for most of my brews.  Most of my beers are an American style anyway, so it works well.  You can use it for just about any beer, if you don't mind some differences from traditional styles.  I don't have the space to keep more bulk base grain around, and to be completely honest, I don't have enough time to brew enough beer to use up more than a sack or two of base grain a year right now anyway.

definitely Maris Otter...

I am also a huge fan of Marris Otter.  I keep both 2 row and 6 row in good supply as well.

Marris Otter huh? I'll have to try it out! big_smile

Crisp's Maris Otter is great for just about any ale and even some lagers.  I usually only keep CMO and a  German Pilsner on hand in bulk.

Do you use the MO for all your ales?

What is the difference that Marris Otter imparts?

I use MO for every ale I make unless I need less malt flavor or an extremely pale color.  MO gives a little more color than a standard Pale 2-row and lends a little more malt backbone to the beer.  It works great for IPA's where you need a little more malt for balance.  I think it just adds a depth to the beer that regular pale 2-row doesn't have.  You could probably get similar results by using regular 2-row and small amounts of a light (20L or less) crystal and a small amount of victory or biscuit.

Sounds great.  I'm definetly a fan of more maltiness.  I'm not much of a hop-head
