First Time Home Brewer

It was about forensic video analysis; basically how to take a crappy grainy bit of video surveillance footage (like from a conveninenc store) and use different programs and techniques to get information which might be useful to solve a crime.

LMAO I feel like I'm watching an episode of 20/20 playing out....

lol

For a absolute Beginner I recommend a Coopers Kit very easy to make and dare I say almost foolproof and being an ExPat Aussie that lives in the US I can brew Coopers Real Ale and Pale with ease (I get a bit more advanced by culturing the coopers Yeast from a Real Ale  bottle but thats pretty easy also).

I can make Coopers Ingredient kits in less than 10 minutes , good if you don't have the time for a full brew day . Its a bit like the Betty Crocker of brewing .

But if you want to get a bit more involved and want brewing to turn into an an obsession like it does for many of us then you might want a partial extract kit .

You're still a bit young yet to be brewing at all.  Sorry, but I can't advocate anyone under the age of 21 drinking or brewing, and some homebrew shops won't sell to you.  A few won't ship internet orders to you with out proof of age.  21 will come sooner than you think.  Study and learn all you want until then, but before you are 21 it's illegal for you to be in possesion of alchohol, it doesn't matter if you brewed it or not.  My advice is to do a ton of research and learn.  If you want to make a career of this, then go to school for it.  And partial mashes are all well and good, but you'll probably wanna start out with extract possibly with some specialty grains when you do first start off.  Mashing takes special equiptment which costs more.  If you're still in high school and insist on brewing, stick with with the basics.  And don't drink what you brew, you're too young.

Your saying you never had a beer before you were 21?  That was not the case for me, high school was filled with keggers and parties.  However Young Brewer I am impressed that you have a pallet that is as refined as it is.  When I was in high school I didn’t care what it was as long as it got me drunk.  I was not thinking about how I could make better beer.  Kudos to you and stick with it, let us all know how your first batch turns out.  however i must insist that you at least have consent from your parents in this endevor.

Not at all, of course I had a few illegal brews as a kid, that doesn't make it ok.  I don't think that the purpose of this web site is to promote underage drinking.  And with parental consent or not in many areas, and I know for a fact in PA(where I live), underage drinking is still illegal and the parents can go to jail for letting their kids drink.

While I commend Young Brewer for his interest in the hobby and his desire to do it well, perhaps well enough to make a career out of it, he is still too young to consume beer.  He needs to wait a few years and then give it a go.  I fail to see what is so complicated about that.  Wait until you are old enough.

He did say that his parents said that they are afraid that it's an excuse to get drunk.  From reading his posts, I'd like to believe that this is not the case.  But nonetheless as I said before, dude wait until you're old enough.  21 comes quick, and every other year after comes faster and faster.  If you really want to prove that you are responsible enough to drink beer, then that means waiting until the law says that you can.  Until then, please visit this site, ask questions, and learn all that you can so that when you're old enough you will be better prepared and will brew better beer because of it.

I can completely understand where you're coming from, Mortician. But at the same time, you're looking at it strictly as me using this to get me drunk. But, as I've said before, that couldn't be further from the truth. And as far as the home brew supply shop nearest me goes(and there is only one within 30 mins of me), he feels the exact same way. He won't sell to me, or even offer his extract classes to me, without consent from my parents (which has also been difficult to say the least).
But while everybody has their feelings towards this subject as far as its legalities goes, I feel as though you should know of my feelings towards this endeavor...I've had dreams about this ever since I started watching YouTube videos and how I could make beers that everyone and anyone could enjoy and how I could profit from it in my future. I've watched at least 3 hours of YouTube videos every day for the last 3 months solely based on brewing beer or beer tastings. I've looked into colleges and sciences geared towards the beer making process.
Beer, believe it or not, is MUCH easier for me to buy than it is for me to make...not to mention, a lot easier to hide from the parents. This is something that I want to base my life around, not because of the state of intoxication it may bring to me, but because of the science behind it and the satisfaction I may one day get from the looks on peoples' faces from a great quality beer. Beer, as you all well know, is an international drink and I dream to one day be able to send my beer to places around the world and get the same look on everybody's face that I see drinking from my beer.
Thank you for your input Mortician, but you may be drawing the wrong conclusions about my sincerity due to my age.
And as for beery eyed, thank you for your support.
Thank you for reading this extremely long post and I look forward to any and all responses and/or comments.

So? It is a forum, ever'body speaks up, not all have the same frame of mind when speaking, that would rapidly get boring, just my feelings.

"Brainstorming" has produced some most notable break-throughs during the course of history.....

incandescent lamps, moving assembly lines, explosive shock-wave implosion to fission plutonium.........
