getting ancy...

tick tock...tick tock... weather is getting better.  rain coming to melt more snow..  I can almost smell the boiling wort already..  I used to love Winter, now I hate it because I can't brew...

As soon as the ground is clear and firm enough, the season is open..

Can't brew? What are you afraid of a little cold and snow?!

Actually I think I got lucky this winter. Once a month, and never had a hose freeze up on me. I musta missed the 4 degree days.

I have mixed feelings about it. Sure I like comfortable ambient temperatures, but I really do love chilling wort all the way down in 15 minutes.

I have a ghetto setup...so with 4 feet of snow on the ground I have nowhere to set it up.  I need about 15 Sq feet, and that's tight.  Down to about 2 feet now, and we're getting heavy rain in the 50's on Friday, so that should help to lose snow...but then I have a river fed swamp, er, "conservation area", behind my house.  If the river floods, the swamp floods, and my back yard floods..  Lots of snow this year, so if the snow all melts too fast, people will be under water again.  Last year was real bad..both rivers through my town crested at over 10' past their respective flood levels..  Streets were closed for weeks, some houses are still empty and rotting.

And if there was no snow, I'd be brewing right now.  I like the cold.. 2 years ago I did the IPA in November, didn't start until 2pm...  so I was trying finish up around 7:30pm, when it was a cozy 21 degrees..  and dark.  That night sucked, but the beer came out great..

So, I have to wait.  Patience will only bring me a better first brew of the season.  I'm probably going to put up my IPA first.  House favorite, ready in 2 weeks, and I already have the hops needed.  Then I want to get ready for a Maibock.  I'll have to build a small ferm chest to keep it cool, but it will be worth it.

Rick I feel your pain.  I only brewed 4 batches last year after our second son was born.
A month or so ago we finally moved to our bigger place.  I am still trying to sell the other house.  So for now my wife is parking in one half of the garage and the other half is full of stuff burying my brewing gear.  Bad news is that I probably won't brew until late spring.  Good news it that now I'll have a better space to host an MA brew day session hopefully.

Brew it up Rick and post some pics.

I'm finally getting back into action today.  I haven't brewed anything since the weekend before my daughter was born, back in July.  I've just been too busy and too broke to do it.  Now I've got a little money and I'm taking today out to brew because I dunno when my next opportuntiy will be to brew again.
