Glass or plastic your thoughts
So, what are the thoughts on glass vs. plastic primary fermenters? I am going to buy a couple of new primarys so just wondering what everyone thoughts were.
I haven't flavor issues with either. I use 6gal plastic fermenter/bottleing buckets for primaries (5-1/2gal batches) & 5 gal glass carboys for seconaries & beyond. Just depends on whether or not you like to watch the fermenting.
I prefer paper.

man, talk about oxidation!
I use either glass or stainless steel. I started out on plastic, but not being able to clean my bucket so that there was no odor got me nervous, so I switched to the aforementioned...

That is pretty much what i had figured was the difference, just being able to see the beer. In my experience so far the nice thing about buckets as opposed to carboys are they are so much easier to handle.
I have a plastic bucket right now, but am also getting a 6.5 gallon glass carboy so I can have two going at the same time. The odor thing with the plastic is a bit disturbing, but so far as I can tell it hasn't hurt anything. I am looking forward to watching some fermentation take place with the new glass one. If I come across any major differences I'll let you know.

Its better than all the rust I was getting when I was using steel wool... not to mention the leaks.
Regarding the smell...I put my plastic bucket fermentor out in the sun all day and it seems to get rid of it.
I fill the just used fermenter with real hot water & a couple tablespoons of unscented bleach, let it sit overnight, rinse again w/ hot water. No odors.
i use bleach on my plastic which seems to get rid of any smell. Lately, i havent been using them because i have a nice collection of carboys.
