HERMS
I'm interested in possible converting to HERMS. Can someone tell me where a good place to head for such information of where a good place to buy parts would be?
What is HERMS? (Sorry, I have just never heard of this term)

Heat Exchanging Recirculating Mash System HERMS ![]()
Thats what I have. Built her myself. Unfortunatly I have had to remove it from my household due to threats of turning me in to the ABC board and the feds by the owner of our local microbrewery here in Huntsville, AL.
I can still help with your questions though.
How much were you brewing to be threatened? Surely they couldn't have done anything to you just for a HERMS system?

Only enough for personal consumption and well below the federal household limit. Nobody has been charged in Alabama in over 20 years of home brewing. There are operang HBS's throughout Alabama, even in dry counties. The guy is just an ass. His brewery is probably failing and I think he's looking for a fall guy. You better never speak negatively of his beer or else he'll get you too. He threatened a friend of mine the other day with the same action if my friend or ANYone were to "mess with him" when my friend inquired about the redicuous threat. I expect home brewing community wide announcements to begin later this week. Alabama is not a home brewer friendly state if you catch my drift. The posession of HB equipment is illegal. That means every houshold in the state is in violation if they have a large pot or turkey cooker lol. The guys beer sucks and that's all I stated to fire him off. I'll probably start a thread by the weekend beginning with his rediculous e-mail. Loose triggers like this guy need to be watched closely. I can still brew but I can't do it at my house because of his threat.
Brew on...
Wow, I guess that I didn't realize that owning homebrew equipment (i.e. turkey fryers, plastic buckets) was illegal anywhere. In fact, when I was in high school and college, we had lots of discussions about how purchasing and owning the equipment and ingredients for HB was perfectly legal for minors. This was in NM, but still, it seems that pretty much any state would be the same.
Well call me silly but I dont know what herms and but I would love to know .
