Introduce Yourself

Are you new to BrewingKB.com?  If so, then introduce yourself to the community?  We are all waiting to meet you!

Feel free to tell us a little about yourself:

1.  How long have you been brewing?
2.  What is your favorite beer style?
3.  Where are you from?

I'll start...

- I actually just started brewing...so less than 1 year
- I love any red ale.  My starter beer was Killians (I've now moved on to more of a micro-brew only fridge)
- The great state of Minnesota. wink

Introduce Yourself!

1. I started brewing... May 2005, did 2 kits, not impressed, went to extract for several months, and converted to all grain last fall. So I have been brewing 1 1/2 years.

2. Favorite style... I have two. Fruit beer (raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry primarily) and American style hefeweizen, WITHOUT the banana & clove esters.

3. The microbrew capitol of the United States. smile I hail from the Portland, Oregon area. I actually just moved upstate, but Oregon native. Home to Widmer, Full Sail, Bridgeport, and many others.

As I stated in my earlier message, a was frequenting another place that has been around for a long time, but after several months, topics were getting varied. Someone would post off topic and if you corrected them, it was immediate flame. Ran into MANY attitudes there. Any negative posts about a brew shop, yeast, hop, distributor, etc, more flames. The owner did nothing about it. What a jerk. I got sick of it and never went back.

I am surprised how quickly this place has grown. I did a whois on the domain name to see how long ago it was registered. Just last summer. (Yes I'm an IT guy) Lots of users since then!

I actually never intended to brew beer. I heard of a local homebrew shop about 10 years ago, but never invested. Why would I? Oregon has a monsterous selection of beer. After briefly living in Chicago and Norfolk, where microbrews are VERY rare (at least where I was), I picked up a kit from a dealer in Virginia Beach. Nice guy, no BS, explained the difference between primary and secondary, he knew of all the popular beers I liked, and gave me some great advice.

Kit sits in storage from June 2004 until May 2005. I was about to sell it when I figured, I will make ONE batch just to see what it's like. That was over 200 gallons, 14 fermenters, 3 brew pots, 10 kegs, mash tun, and lots of toys later.

For me, there are two parts of brewing that suck: 1) cleaning and 2) WAITING. But for me, when I get compliments over my hefeweizen, raspberry beer, amber ale, or any of my signature recipes, it makes those 8-10 hour brew days and clean up worth it.

That's enough of my life story.

Hey all!  Figured I would fill one of these out briefly as I know you're all just dying to meet me! tongue

  • My name is Charles, and I have been brewing for about two and a half years, but I took a short break over the last year because there was just too much going on in the real world roll Shoddy excuse, I know!

  • My favorite beer overall is Guinness.  As far as styles go, I adore porters & stouts, especially if they are interesting beers.  I also have a new-found love for Lambic styles, specifically the Lindeman's line of Lambics.

  • I hail from Minnesota, which has been my home for all 25 years of my life.  We have a great local craft-brewing representation, with several brewpubs, brewshops, and brewclubs close at hand.

As you probably picked up on, I am a voracious reader when it comes to brewing.  I have about twenty brewing books, and have read each of them at least once.  I have a lot of brewing knowledge, but not the experience portion just yet.  Hopefully we will see that change very soon!

I've been brewing for about a year so far but I don't really have a years worth of experience as my brews are pretty few and far betwee.

My favorite style of beer is most certainly the Stout.  I think my first three brews were one kind of stout or another.  I guess this stems from the times when I only drank beer to get drunk (college) and all the beers were watered down.  When I had my first Guinness all I could think of was "wow! this has flavor!"  I've tried to never look back.

I hail from the big state of Montana.  I haven't found a home brew shop yet, but there are lots of good brews to be had around town.

I read anything I can get my hands on which usually leaves me with a lot of untested toughts and ideas as I don't brew enough, but I'm trying to change that.

I started brewing almost 3 years ago with extract and have moved on too all grain this past summer. I have brewed around 30 5 gal batches so far and am planning a very vigorous brewing winter somewhere around 10 batches. My favorite style is IPA, the hoppier the better, as you might have guessed from my name. i have an all home made system with old kegs that I have gooten from various places, a brewing friend cuts an welds them for me. I am the President of the homebrew club that I started 2 yrs. ago and we have only 7 members but we are trying to recruit more all the time.

I started brewing way back in 1982 while living in Utah and have been an AHA member since. The limited beer availability encouraged me to make my own. My first batch was a SuperBrau extract kit that had half corn sugar in it. My 2nd or 3rd batch I used some Pabst Blue Ribbon malt extract from the local grocery stotre! Too bad that stuff isn't still available. My have things changed since then.

hi all!

ickys brewhaus is a one brewmeistress operation, on its way from being a large homebrewery to a tiny microbrewery.  i have been brewing for 15 years now, but i have only taken it up seriously in the last 3 years.  (i was pretty serious about it when i was under 21 as well...)  serious being ready for a dedicated brew fridge, and i just bought my first false bottom/spigot 10 gallon kettle.  next wil be DIY building a 50 gallon version!

favorite beer style is porter.  i make twice as much dark beer as light, because i dont like very many light beers, and i can get way more creative with dark beer experiments.  (chocolate, coffee, chipotle, habenero, fruit, nuts, etc.)

i hail from the east coast, but have been living in oregon, alaska, and california for the last 12 years.

nice to meet y'all.  this has been a great forum thus far, i have really gained a lot from it.  thanks for all your input!

I have been brewing for about 5 years now.  I like many others started with extract beers, then moved to extract plus specialty grains, and last year to all grain.

My favorite style of beers are IPA's, but I like pretty much any ale style out there from pale up to stouts.

I currently live in Northern Cali, but I am originally from New Mexico.

> 1.  How long have you been brewing?

I first brewed in 1997.

> 2.  What is your favorite beer style?

I like 'em dark and powerful ... stouts, porters, brown ales, etc. But, let's face it, I'll drink (almost) any flavorful beer when given the chance. Most recently. I made a barleywine that was out of this world. (its ... uh ... all gone, now)

> 3.  Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Sunny Southern California. Therefore, I really can't ever leave. We natives tend to have an almost-irrational fear of shoveling snow, scraping ice of my windshield, slipping on ice, etc.

Heck, we basically can't tolerate any termperature below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. When that happens, people start taking sick days from work. ("Dude, it's just TOO COLD! I can't comet to work today.)

Howdy Howdy

I've been brewing for about 4 months now, so I'm just starting to harvest the fruits of my labor.  I love to read and research everything I can and tend to really dive into my hobbys.  I started with mini-mash kits and I think that my next batch will be all-grain.

As a beer drinker I started out with the cheap mega brews and slowly through college worked my way from Kokanee to Amber Bock to Guinness to some of the local Micros.  As a homebrewer I started with darker beers and am slowly making my way back down to the lighter side of things.  Although I think my favorite beer has to be a BitterRoot Nut Brown Ale.  I've tried a few styles of Brown Ales but haven't been able to quite pin down that perfect brew, but I'm close :-D.

I'm born and raised in Montana where the winters are cold and the summers are hot and both occasians call for a beer.
