Labeley - free website for designing custom beer labels online
Hello, everyone!
I got news that might be interesting for the home brewers. ![]()
I'm coming from a little group of friends who love web design, and love beer even more. That's why we made a decision to marry our two loves and make something useful for the beer community. During next few months we used our whole spare time (and a lot of beer) to make something unique, and here it is - Labeley.com
The app - Labeley.com - is designed to let people with no designing knowledge make their own custom beer labels. You can play around, choosing either from a nicely illustrated graphics gallery, or uploading your own photo, putting different backgrounds, ribbons, any text you want in any color… It’s very addictive. It's completely free, and we intend to keep it that way. It cures depression and makes you feel creative.
If you have time and good will, take a look and let me us know what you think; we would really appreciate a true beer expert’s sincere words. If you like it, you might suggest it to your friends.
Thanks a lot for your time!
Interesting. Pretty basic and seems simple enough. Probably won't be able to create award winning labels there, but it beats masking tape and a sharpie.
I like it; it's a pretty good label developing program. I did have some problem's when it came to adding text. I went to change an orriginal text that I didn't like, and it kept coming up with what I wrote first...even after I pressed the "reset text" button. Look into that. Otherwise, I really like this. It's perfect for a home brewer. I didn't get to saving and sharing, but are you able to save it on a flash drive in a format you could bring to a printing shop?
I just tried it again with text on a new label...I figured out it has problems with appostraphies...I couldn't make "Lucy's Brew" But could make "Lucys Brew"
Excellent site. easy to use and good variety of options.

Thanks for the feedback, we'll be happy to hear more!
@sewer_urchen Thanks a lot, we're working on fixing this bug.
I like it as well, especially cause it's free as I am sure would appeal to nearly every homebrewer!
seems to work pretty well, I don't bother with labels, but those who do might like to use it.
How does this post have 1600+ views in just a few days? Something fishy going on here.

I agree...strange...something definately doesn't seem right with that...maybe Ana_B checks this post every three seconds to see if anyone has written something...
There are also still some issues with text. Now I was able to use appostraphies...but not multiple words...I went to type a two word phrase and only the first word came up, making it impossible to do anything but straight lines, no curves unless you want to do just one word.
Another suggestion, you are able to click on "save and share" but it doesn't save anything...once you leave the site your label is lost forever...so I think you should establish login's and members, the same way you need a login with this site...it's still free, but using a login can help members save their labels and edit in the future, plus it will help keep hackers out of the site and make you more able to put up firewalls for protection of the site and the people using it. Also with a login you could establish popularity of the site and in the future potentially solicit advertisers in the brewing market...same way this site has, and turn a profit, wouldn't be facebook big because it's so specialized, but there is a big enough market to target and you could at least get a little kick back for the time invested.
And a final suggestion...allow users to save their label as a high resolution jpeg that they can bring to a local printing company. I had a label made up, but could only save the small icon that distorted when you blew it up past an inch in size, and the blown up version on the website you can only save the target, not the image. This would make your website more viable to the local brewer who would most likely use it.
Those are the biggest bugs I see with the site as it stands right now...hope these suggestions were helpful.
@sewer_urchen, thanks for your feedback, it's very valuable to us!
We fixed all the text bugs that you mentioned, text input should now work flawlessly.
Saving of the labels works (you can save 5 of them), but only in one session, once you refresh the page it's all gone. We didn't have resources to make a community system with memberships and logins, but that's certainly one of the plans for the future.
Regarding label resolution, we did give that option to download full size images to the user. Resolution of downloaded labels is set to 1200 x 1350 pixels, it should be enough for the average sized label.
Thanks again, we're waiting for more feedback.
Just wanted to give a Kudo's on working out the kinks on this website! The text all works great now, very easy to put together many labels and combinations, and the download feature is nice in that it lets you download a larger resolution file, so when you blow it up it doesn't get pixled. Great job Ana_B and team!
For those on this forum that haven't tried this out, give it a shot, you can make a pretty darn good looking label for your beer in less than 5 min.
Might just give that a try.
I only keg now, but it would be cool to have a label above the spigot.
Here are Labels I made on Labeley.com
Nice job! They really give your bottles a professional, finished look.
Do you print on regular paper, or use the pre-gummed label stock?
