Lemon Hops?

Just looking to pick the brains of some of the hop heads here.  Are there any varieties of hops that give a good lemon aroma/flavor.

Sorry, I've never heard of lemon hops, but the idea does sound appetizing.

If you can find some, I wonder if the brew would taste similar to a shandy?

Not that I've ever heard of. Only citrus or grapefruit, but speaking of citrus, I don't know why the profile even mentioned that because it is nothing like lemon. Example is cascade. Chinook gives a nice floral aroma if you use enough. There is a particular IPA mcmenamins makes that uses tons of chinook, and the beer has floral scents wafting off it.

Here's a list for you:

If you want some lemon notes, add some fruit.

Williams sells an amarillo hop that has a very strong citrus scent to it. Just brewed an esb using but have yet to taste final product, but it's the closest to a citrus taste that Ive come across in my limited experience. I chopped a lemon up and boiled it with the mash in a hefeweizen and it gave off a great citrus flavor.

Amarillo's give an apricot/peach aroma.  If you use enough, and late-hop them, it will taste like an apricot extract was added.

The closest to lemon would probably be a cascade, though they're not really a lemon flavor either.  I don't think you can get lemon flavor or aroma without actually adding lemon.

Thanks for all the info.  I've only recently become interested in IPAs and other such hoppy brews.  I have so much to learn

You'll always be learning. I like not knowing everything in any particular field. That means there is always something new. I have only talked with two brewers ever who I got a *strong* impression that both thought they knew everything about the hobby. Needless to say, I didn't like either guy.

I don't learn as much here as I have from other places, but brewingkb is... 4 months old? Most of the competitors are older. However, I don't run into (insert expletives) here like I have elsewhere. People here tend to be much nicer. This place will grow.

Hi, try a small bit of lemon extract at bottling time,
I used some cherry for a bock beer and really made
it nice background flavor, experiment a little to find
the correct amount, I used a whole bottle maybe
1.5 oz. just like Vanila extract you see in supermarkets
for the 5 Gal. batch, tried it one in fermentor but the
process took all the flavor and aroma out during the
primary fermentation, Good Luck.

PS: make sure anything you put in is Clean as in
a pure form to not wreck your brew, store bought
extract is in a alcohol base allready, would not try
to add any fruits or anything not purified.
