Liquid Yeast Expiration

Hi.  I'm getting back into brewing after having stop for a while.  I ran across a bag of liquid yeast in the fridge, but there is no expiration date on it.  It's been refridgerated the entire time (my wife kept asking if she could toss it and I kept saying no).  Any idea if it's still usable?

Thanks for any help!

How long is "a while"?  You could always make a pitch it in a starter and see what happens.

If the yeast has been kept in the frige there is a very good possiblity that the yeast is simply dormant.  Make a small mount of wort (perhaps a liter) and pitch the yeast at 80 degrees.  Give it a good shake and see what happens.

I've heard of people using yeast that was a year or more past it's date.  Just make a small starter, then when that is fermented, add some more starter wort.  then you can use it to brew.

This is good, but I'd decant the first wort before adding the second wort starter.
