My first yeast starter

planning a 5 gallon batch with a OG of 1.075 and as I promised a week or so back, this time I will make a starter. I used 32 Oz of water and 1 cup of LME. I realized the glass container I would be using for the starter is only 32 Oz. I added about 80% of my starter to the container and added the yeast. So now that I jumped in head first, I have two questions

1. Did I use the right amount of LME for a starter for a OG batch of 1.075?

2. How long should I wait before starting the actual batch and adding the starter?

Typically you will want to weigh your DME (much more accurate than volume.)
Specific gravity should be in the 1.040 range which equals 100 gms LDME to a total volume of 1 L.

I would recommend letting your starter ferment out completely and then place it in the fridge until the yeast settles out and then decant the clear wort and pitch the slurry.  I usually make a starter a few days ahead of the planned brew day.
