The pairings for the fall edition of BKB beer swap

My brew season is over til the weather is warm again..  sad

However, if I got someone other than DC for the next round, I'll probably still have some of the 2 brews I sent out before.  I'm actually going to be draining the kegs to bottle today, so I can shut down and clean the kegerator for the Winter.  Plus I have a leak somewhere and am getting sick of dropping $23 for CO2 every few weeks.  I tried spraying a foam solution to look for bubble, but saw nothing.  I have a feeling it's a tiny leak that I would never find; so I'm going to take it all apart, clean, reseal, and be ready for next season..

I don't feel much like standing out in the cold either. I am thinking of finding a cheap aluminum pot and installing a 2000W electric element in it and doing BIAB on the stove for the winter. Between the 2000W burner on the stove and the water heater element there would be more than enough power to boil a five gallon batch, And it could be done from the comfort of the kitchen. Now all I have to do is muster enough ambition to get it done.

This just wasn't a very good brew season for me.  I think I only got 2 batches done..  Just didn't have time or money, or weather.  The 2 things I try to do as much as possible during the nice weather, brew beer and play golf...  I brewed only twice, and didn't play a round all year.  Just hit the range a few times...  Very sad..next year will be different for sure.  I'm going to start putting some $$$ away so I make a few upgrades to my setup next year.  My ghetto brewing style has caught up to me, and stuff just doesn't work right so I'm constantly trying to either make repairs or adjustements during the brew session, which just doesn't work too well..

Rule #1 - Next year is always going to be different.

I think for my first year brewing I did OK. Didn't brew as much as I wanted to, but then again who does? I kind of got my equipment figured out, and some of my basic processes down so I think I can get repeatability. Made a few mistakes, but nothing I couldn't drink. smile  And I have an idea of what direction I want to go with my brewing and equipment. So all things considered a pretty successful year.

Didn't make it out on the golf course this year. Again. Actually I haven't made it out since a few years ago when I got new (to me) clubs. Now THAT was a wise investment.....smile

DC - I had the last one of your African Amber's yesterday. Really fabulous. I think I am going to do a version of this next summer. With the honey malt and a little less hops it will make an excellent summer brew. A little lighter and very refreshing.

thanks, i had a couple people try t and like it so much one of them wants to buy an entire batch. i might make it my regular version.

I cant wait to swap! I am not sure what will be ready by then, but I am excited to do this. My guess is after the holidays so mid January we will do it? I should have a nice line up ready by then.

P.S. I am so excited that emott got a compliment on his first allgrain. He is the guy I brew with and is basically my mentor so I am glad I am learning from a skilled craftsman.

that sounds good to me. i have 2 weeks off the let week in december and first week in janurary so i'll be brewing a couple batches.
I like the cold weather for brewing, I use my stove but I put the carboy out in the snow or on the patio in the 20 degree or colder temps to get a quick cool down.  the colder outside the better.

I don't let it stop me, but a few more degrees would be nice.

The garage gets cold!
