Purpose of Brewing

Greetings everyone,

I started homebrewing as a whim and found that I really enjoyed it.  Last year, I brewed the first batch with friends so we would have it ready for New Year's Eve.  Since then I have gone from Extract only to AG, Bottles to Kegs and now have Keggles instead of pots.  Just built the CFC and am trying to find a lagering freezer as well.  Is it a hobby?  I hope that it will turn into a venture that I can make some money at but still enjoy it on a personal level.

As others have said, it is relaxing, therapeutic and calming.  And all of that before I open a finshed product.

I got into homebrewing because I was interested in learning the process and history of brewing.  I am currently working on my first batch and will probably get a second setup for my girlfriend.  She really took an interest in it and wants to brew her own batch.

dude she sounds like a keeper!!!!!!!!!!! woohoo!!! if i could only get my wife to like beer!!!!!!!!!!!

I got into brewing cause i like to experiment brewing different grains with other types of herbs and grains

why do i brew?, i havent, iam just beginning the process of my first attempt, a dark real ale. iam 30 years old and for years i was happy to be the victim of advertising and cheap mass produced tasteless lagers, mostly american (sorry!!). about 4 yaers ago i began to get into proper ales and especially belgian abbey and english real ale mainly for the sense of satisfaction one gets from a proper pint and the complexity of the ingrediants and tatses, i have joined beer clubs and iam a member of camra. with the interest in ale comes an interest in how it is made and i have recently bought my first kit, iam quite nervous and would accept any advice from those who know,so please take pity on me, i know my first batch is not going to be a theakstons or a chimay but i will take something that vaguely resembles ale, which will still be better than mass produced lagers!!!!

I recently moved to a tropical Island, which has only two breweries. Neither one tastes good. I am forced to buy imported beer at very high prices, with limited choices.

I recently went to Germany and had the time of my life drinking all the different beers. When I returned I decided to become a home brewer.

I purchased a beer kit and started my first batch last week. My final goal is to make a wheat beer.

i am also just beginning to brew,  my first isnt even ready yet (but iv sneaked a couple in anyway) but i am already hooked. i wanted to for a few years, never had the money for a set up, but i broke down  spent some anniversary money, and here i am,  googleing (yes, its a verb now) everything i can think of pertaining to the homebrewer.  its (gonna be) cheaper,  better, and waayy  more satisfying,  i also want to get my girlfriend to drink more beer with me,  but she only likes a few styles,  if i can clone some of these...   i also have a dream of opening me own brewpub.

It was the Math. I found that there are only somewhere around 500 different beers available close by for tasting. But, there are over 1500-15,000 recipes available from books, the internet, and just plain imagination. It's the same reason I joined a Homebrew club. I can only make so many beers but I can taste all of the club member's beers too.

I do not currently home brew,  but have been seriously contemplating it for awhile now. I finally searched the subject and ended up here. Hopefully this will get my feet off the ground.

I'm pretty new at this but I really enjoy "tweaking" the ingredients around to change ETOH content and flavor. It's a great way to make friends and influence people.lol

Why I homebrew  (because I can)  no seriously it has only been the last few years that I have tried to make my own wine statring with huckleberries,  very good
as it is now cranberrys  aperntently I did not get enough sugar the first time and am trying to re brew it  adding more sugar,  I am doing this just for the fun of it

I've always wanted to brew my own, but never actually had the extra cash to buy the kits.  I've been asking for a kit for christmas from my wife for several years.  Finally I got one for christmas this year and although my first brew isn't completely finished yet, I already have come up with the next two recipes.  Just like sticky, my far off dream is to have a place where I have my beer on tap in a small pub, and my wife also supports the idea.  Plus the satisfaction of actually brewing your own, and being able to serve it to your friends is pretty neat!

I was suffering from Hyper tension and the Doctor told me to get a hobby to relax and enjoy life.
I looked at Racing no way way to expensive.
I looked at music no way way to much commitment.
So my wife said you like Beer so why not try to make your own.
8 years later and much I am relaxed and enjoying my hobby Brewery.
Had some bad batchs but had even more good ones and that is what its all about.
Having fun and enjoying a cold beer with your friends.

It's something I've been interested in for years but I always thought it was a complicated process.  When I actually checked into it and found out how easy it was, I knew I had to.  I really enjoy cooking (and beer) and doing things myself (and beer).  Brewing fit in perfectly.  I look forward to having the perfect recipe for me and keeping plenty of bottles worth available at any time.

I brew for the BEER. DUH!!!
