Purpose of Brewing
I brew because I got tired of drinking the beer that other people told me was good.
I brew because I want to drink beer that has as much individual charactor as I do.
I brew because I am sick and tired of the big 3, telling me that watered down yellow fizzy stuff is beer.
I brew because I am american and I have the right to.
I brew because I not only make the beer I drink, but I invent the beer I drink.
I brew because I Love beer.
Cheers to Beer and all it stands for!
I brew because I'm living in a van, down by the river.
I was in a Target store shopping for some things this past Christmas when I spotted a Mr. Beer kit on clearance. I took it home and started on it the same night. Even though I was negligent and left the beer sitting on dead yeast for a month the beer came out fairly good. I have retired Mr. Beer and moved on to buckets and carboys. Some of the commercial beers I used to drink don't taste all that good anymore (and I've only made three batches of beer so far). Budweiser and Killians still taste good, though! I enjoy the process of brewing and the different tastes that are possible when doing my own beer...stainless conicals and RIMS are down the road yet, but good beer is fermenting right now!!!
Like all good things in life it's cheap (better bang for your buck), easy and fun.
It' a great hobby. Fun 2 do. Nothing beats making something yourself. Especially when you get 2 drink it when your'e done!
I brew my own homebrew because just the idea that knowing that I made this.
Also knowing it is fresh and to my own tastes and dislikes. Just watching the wort going
from a brown bubbly liguid to a glass of clean fresh beer is amazing. And besides man has been making beer for himself for centurys.
Home brewing is something I've been interested in since I was a kid. We had a family friend who constantly had some type of wine underway. So now as an adult, I've finally taken the first steps myself (I did my first wine kit a little more than a year ago.) I'm still very much in the "training wheels" stage, using kits and not daring to vary from the directions, but I hope to begin exploring and experimenting as I learn more about the process.
Beside having the satisfaction and cost savings of drinking my own beer and wine, it's also handy at gift giving season. Friends and relatives are invariably impressed to receive a bottle of homemade brew.
I tried a few years ago with the Mr. Beer system and it was easy and o.k., but a few months back friends of mine started making their own beer and it was great. So in the last week I started my own home brew and found that the extra work is fun for me and my two sons. It is something that we can do together.
First of all I really like craft brews and the challenge of emulating a certain style at home.
I also enjoy taking the time to create something that I and others can enjoy. For me, the most rewarding part of home brewing is sharing the product with friends and family. Every baych is different and the anticipation of waiting and wondering how the next batch will come out is what I like about brewing at home.

Reason 1: "I HATE BEER". A quote from me in October 1998. I then moved to Germany for 2 1/2 years. After that, "I LOVE BEER" became my new mantra. But, the problem was, the beer back here was too weak. For several years I paid the premium price to get "good" beer. Now, I have learned that with very little experience, I am able to make a partial grain, and partial extract beer that is much better than I can buy at reasonable costs.
Reason 2: I like to customize. I am a "hophead", and I am proud of it. No beer on the market can satisfy my desire to smell a beer that makes me feel like I took off all of my clothes and rolled around in a fresh batch of harvested hops.
Reason 3: My dad brews beer. I did not appreciate it at the time but the complexities of the chemistry and the tradition and the art of making beer make me feel a bit closer to my roots.
Reason 4: I do not like sports so it is difficult to have a subject to talk about with most people. I mention the fact that I brew beer and suddenly, endless hours of conversation ensue.
Reason 5: Every batch saves me $53 if I compare my prices to premium beers and $103 if I compare to the wines I used to drink.
Reason 6: Pride. There is nothing like the feeling of a smile put on your own face by a beer that was made by oneself.
etc..etc..etc.......
Hi all !!! , just signed up and am looking forward to all the input I can get.
I got into homebrewing for a few reasons. 1- I am Polish and was brought up in a beer loving environment, so it is only natural that I want to make my own beer. ( I love to cook from scratch so why not brew my own beer the same !!)
2- I can control the quality and make a chemical free/ natural brew.
3- It's a cool hobby I can share.
P.S. zimny piwo in Polish means .....COLD BEER !!!!!!!!
This is my first foray in home brewing, and I am quite excited about it. I want to brew my own beer because I love beer, its flavor, its fragrance, its body,,,,and yes its buzz, smooth, mellow and in control. I personally believe beer is far more complex than wine. And without the attitude. I plan on brewing from here on in as I am seriously invested at this point and figure I need to breww somewhere betrween 15 & 25 five gallon batches to break even, but then there is the price of entertainment. and the satisfaction of mellowing out with my own personal creation. Enjoy All!
The wife and I moved to ky. in1996 from IL.+IN. We both used to make good incomes and did not worry about the cost of beer! We moved into a dry county because we wanted to be close to KY lake. ( wow). The wages in this part of KY. were not what we were used to.( A case of brew here cost $20.00.) Thus homebrew !!! We love beer! We currently brew 30 gallons (13 cases ) every month at a cost of $3.50 per case. We have designed a 30 gallon fermenter and developed several recipes that allow us to brew great inexpensive beers that use local ingredients, without the hangovers that you get from commercial beers. Cheers pappy & moemoe
I am a DIY'er, I just love creating something and being able to enjoy. There is nothing better than enjoying a pint of your own brew.
i brew for the same reason that i cook: so that i can have exactly the taste i want.
there aren't many things in life where you get to reach down deep into your imagination
and pull out your heart's desire and have it. in fact, there are so few opportunities that
most of us lose touch with what we really want.
