Purpose of Brewing
why I brew , man can oly drink water for so long
I have just started brewing. In fact last night I bottled my second batch. The reason I am interested in this is because I love good beer. I've always thought about trying this out and now that I have jumped in I am very happy I did. The possibilities and varieties are just staggering, but to me its a challenge worth tackling ![]()
I started brewing one day out of the blue. I had an extra $200 left over from work and went to the local beer-store and bought my first carboy - bottling bucket - capper - and beer kit. Little to say, I LOVE brewing. It's so much fun, and now almost all my extra income is going into brewing.

I've always liked to cook, and when it comes down to it, brewing is pretty much one form of cooking.
I enjoy the positive comments I get from people who drink my beer. While I drink a lot of my own beer, I enjoy the brewing process and always seem to have more on hand than I could ever consume, so I give it away to friends that really appreciate a good beer.
I like always having beer on hand in my kegerator that I've made myself. Homebrewed beer just tastes better than commercial beers, even those made by good micro- or craftbreweries.
It's fun to watch my airlock bubble, thinking of the "magic" going on (it wasn't until Louis Pasteur that people even understood anything about microbiology, and I bet a lot of people in ye olden days thought that fermentation was magic).
Hi all,
I just got into home brewing. I have a batch of amber ale in the fermenter and I will be racking that off in a couple of days. I have been a beer lover for several years and have wanted to get into brewing since my first bar tending job at a wedding where I served home brewed beer, mead, and wine.
So, here I go into the wild realm of brewing...wish me luck.

i began homebrewing after i tasted my first abtch of a friend's homebrew. he had been homebrewing for years, had gotten into the craft when he lived overseas and beer was wicked expensive, so the batch i tasted had the benefit of his years and years of experience. once i tasted what real beer was, i was in love.
it is an affair i am proud to continue.
Tired of microbrews that only come in small quantities. Also, cooking and drinking is what I love to do.
I have brewed beer once, and it came out okay, nothing special. So I was discoraged and never tried again. But now my son will not drink beer because he does not eat wheat, so out of coriousity i did a search on wheat free beer and got to this site. I am ready now to investigate brewing beer once again and this is my first step. I would like to enjoy a beer with my son.
Hello everyone!
I am new to Homebrewing and I am doing this because I like the taste of Sam Adams beer. A friend of mine told me the only way to get great tasting beer is to home brew, so here I am! I bought a kit from a shop and I started my VERY FIRST batch yesterday. I am attempting to make a John Bull Master Class Export Pilsner. I am hopeful, but somewhat apprehensive because I know so little about it all. That's why I joined this group! I want to make an excellent beer soon. I am 43 and my Son is 23. This is a cool way to do something together and learn something new in the process. We adde the yeast yesterday and it will be 24 hours at 7:00 P.M. tonight. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!
Wish me luck!

in ireland its not possible in most places to buy a decent pint of beer or stout in a pub (guinness being a very over hyped drink apart from guinness foreign extra which aint in the pubs) and though you can get nice beers in off licences like fullers golden pride, esb, hens tooth, hommel, sneider aventinus, delerium tremens, leffe blond, and guiness foreign extra all beautiful drinks but the price you pay would make your mother cry with shame.so ive decided to take the situation by the scruff of the neck this is my first ever brew ive got 4 gallons of stout brewing and i hope it will be vaguely drinkable and if its not ill drink it all anyway and to hell with the consequences.
I brew because I love beer. I love beer culture, its history, and its potential.
I brew to understand brewing science. I brew to understand the differences between beer styles.
I brew to understand the differences between ingredients and to know how they influence the final product.
I brew so that when I taste something I like commercially I can identify the key components necessary to reporduce it at home. I like to be able to know what I am looking for when I am in the mood for a certain beer flavor I can go and pick it out at the store.
I brew to understand beer and to promote its finer points, hoepfully to elevate beer's respect in the minds of others who think all beer is yellow and fizzy.
I brew, because it's cool. It's cool to show up at a party, and when asked, "Hey man, what cha drinkin...", and the most simple reply, "Mine, brewed by me, enjoyed by me. How's that Bud Light treating you?"........Plus asforementioned, the history of brewing is fairly deep, if you care to read and watch about it. I just started, and I know this is something I'll do forever.....
A guy that I work with received a kit from his future mother-in-law for christmas and we decided to give it a try. My father a German catholic from Milwaulkee made beer ocationally when I was growing up( go figure). We brew a couple of batches a month about 8 now and really enjoy drinking it while we are brewing it.
I am new to brewing, I've always thought it would be a nice hobby. This past Father's day, my wife and daughter bought me a home brew kit. (I won't say the name because I've already read some post where several people do not like the kit) Personally I think it's a good way to start to see if this is something I want to do. I'm currently brewing a pale ale (It's in the bottling stage now) and I've got the ingredients ordered for a bohemian next. I tasted my first batch this past Tuesday night to see if it was ready and it tasted pretty darn good, flat but pretty darn good! I'm probably going to stick with this hobby, cause it's a great way to unwind and actually fun to do and talk about...and as I grow, I will upgrade to a better system. One of my buddies is trying to talk me into kegging instead of bottling, but I told him one step at a time....Anyway I hope I can pick up some great tips on here as I get more and more into brewing...Thanks!
