Purpose of Brewing
hi friends. just sending out a shout cuz i got a starter kit for dad's day and am excited to get brewing. this looks like a great community to learn some things. i guess i'm getting into brewing for the same reasons as a lot of you folks. i like expressing myself through creating lasting flavor. i used to cook for a living but got pretty disillusioned with that scene and still want to create. i'll be looking to you guys for newbie pointers so keep an eye out! thankx.
I started brewing because the local brew was getting too mundane[it tasted like water] .My wife still likes it ,but she likes me so she still has good taste.
My current brew is Coopers Canadian Blonde which is also my everyday tipple.![]()
I have not started to homebrew yet, but am seriously considering it. I am a 23yr vet of the millitary, and have drank beer from all around the world (in some cases lots of the local brew). And I would like to try to brew some of the ones I liked the best. I am interested in trying to brew some stouts and maybe a wisen or two.
Interested beginner here. I love a great tasting beer, and my wife and I want to try the hobby. Any tips to get started would be appreciated. What is the most cost effective way to start this process?
i havent really experimented much but im learning to brew because its intriging and i was raised to apprieciate quaility not level of alcohol and this way i can try and make ones my friends and myself will enjoy ![]()
I love good food, I love good beer. I love my garden. I love cooking good food from my garden for my family. I LOVE my wife. We brew together, NAKED. I like co-ed naked home brewing! It's almost FOOTBALL season... honey have you seen my shorts?
my brother has been brewing beer for about 25 years and ten years or so ago he started brewing mead and i really enjoyed it so i started brewing mead about 3 years ago because you cant find a lot of mead in stores mark
I've been a cook for about 14 years, and into great beer for about 5 (since I realized that Budweiser is NOT typical for what beer is).
It was only natural to pick it up eventually. I love it for all the same reasons listed above, the pride in craftsmanship, the creativity, love of good beer, and saving money.

I brew for the fun of making something from its constituent parts. Most people are shocked when you tell them you make beer. "You MAKE beer? Like, from..uh..at home?!" I'm also a fan of cooking and doing projects. I program, too. I guess I could say that, like my other hobbies, mixing creativity and technical knowledge is what attracts me to homebrewing. At the end of it all, you have beer to enjoy with friends!
I started brewing beer because I love beer, my friends love beer, lots of people love beer, theirfore I am one cool dude because I make beer. It's fun to build equiptment using the engineering skills I have, make up recipes, names and labels with my creativity, use the knowledge I have obtained to craft a great tasting brew, and then drink and share with friends what I have created at home, from start to finish. Mmmm beer!
on shelf: strong pale ale in fermenter: air up next: pumpkin ale
I began to drink beer only two years ago. Shortly after discovering Belgian Trippel, I was at a microbrewery that sold beer making supplies. A pamphlet describing the use of herbs in beer fascinated me and I went home to look up Homebrewing on the internet. I found evening college courses being taught about an hour away from my home so I enrolled. I didn't have the money to buy a full grain set up once I completed the course, so I began attending courses in Beer Evaluation and Judging. I finally got my full grain set up this spring and am learning to apply my schooling to the application!
i have only brewed a couple of times but my passion for the product and it properties is huge. I am a cook at heart and love beer, and am going to get back into brewing so any tips would be appreciated. have a good one.

Stay on board and be active here, you'll learn a lot. Its always good to have another cook on board who loves beer.
I am not a cook, but there are a couple on the that have offered great perspective occasionally.
I love beer and there is somthing special about making it yourself.
Hi everybody! I just registered. I have always been into beer (coming from a city of many great microbrews) and used to have friends that brewed (8 years ago). After watching Top Chef, I got heavily cooking, and a conicidently a guy at work gave me a free kegerator. After that, the snowball started. I immediately went to the local brew place and bought all the supplies required for brewing/kegging. I currently have my first batch of the brew mart "house red" fermenting in my carboy, and am looking forward to learning more and ultimately building my own recipies and branding. Looks like a great site!
