Sam Adams Utopias
Wow. That is probably one to hold onto. Did you check out ebay? They are asking $400 or more for them. At that alcohol, they should be good for several years.
I've never even heard of that. I quit drinking SA beer a few years ago when I realized they didn't make anything I remotely liked. I don't even consider their beers to be microbrew.
But no, I have never tried it. Just not impressed with anything they brew.
Somewhere in the 90's Sam Adams decided to start doing some extreme brews, starting with their Triple Bock. The made a millenium beer and then moved to the Utopias. Supposedly, the original purpose of the Utopias was to break the world record for % alcohol and then to really push the envelope of alcohol beer brewing. I have never met anyone who has tried one, so I don't know how they are.
While certainly not my favorite beers around, I don't think that you can really say that all their beers are bad. They make some decent beers and certainly offer a lot of variety. Plus, we probably owe the microbrew explosion to Sam Adams. They were the force that started driving that over a decade ago.
I like Sam Adams, not everything they brew, but they're a true micro/macro, they just spend more on advertising then a New Belgium or any of the others that are of equal size.
My dad's utopia will be on Ebay within the week.
cmanley, now for the real question: Are you going to tell your dad how much they are selling for? I know when they first came out, they were running in the $80 - $90 range (still awfully expensive for a beer), so I was shocked when I checked them out on ebay and saw them for $400.
i should consider diggin up those triple bocks i have left and sell'em, seeing how i really might not want to go there again ![]()
No I won't tell him, he won't even miss it. Half of the bottles in that fridge are over 3 years old.

When you do sell it, I would be interested to hear about how much someone paid for it. Good luck.
Maybe I'll find some other gems back there. I know there was a SA Millenium around somewhere, he picked it up before Christmas a few years back.
That is a treasure chest of beer. I think those are worth a bit of money as well, as they were a completely limited run.
