Side effect of yeast




Ok,I'm going to ask all you vetran brewers a serious question. I ussually start to drink some of my brews about a week after I bottle, so I can give others a little te to mature longer. Here's my question, I know yeast is good for you because the vitamin B complex.but is a colon cleanse the next morning a normal side effect of the yeast??? If so I need to brew double or triple batch so they can age more.



 

Yeah, that is a common issue with newer brewers.
I think it primarily has to do with the amount of yeast newer brewers still have in the bottle product and the health of said yeast.  As you get better and better at the process you will naturally be leaving more yeast behind in the fermentor.  It takes less than you think to get your beer to carbonate.  Second to that; as you improve as a brewer your fermentation practices get better this leads to cleaner beer.

We can all agree on the benefit that good fermentation has on beer flavor.  But it seems for some homebrewers the first few batches of beer with less than healthy yeast, and less than ideal fermentation tends to create beers that generate excess flatulance and/or some degree of the runs the next day.

Worry not it will get better.
And aging the beers a bit more than when they are still green helps.
Some people are more prone to this issue personally regardless of the quality of their yeast or fermentation.

This is may be true, but it is not comforting.  When you give your homebrew to someone new that isn't "acclimated" you don't want this thing happening to people.  It gives homebrewing a bad name if you don't work to fix the quality of your beer and everyone that tries your beer has complications the next day.

that just gives everyone all the more reason to drink more homebrew.  or store bought hefewiezen, since it still has yeast in it.

I've never noticed any problems from my homebrew, and only one person has ever said they had that reaction from it, but they also get that reaction from Coors Light.
