Starter Culture
Isn't there a point at which you should stop using the same yeast culture? I thought that it was only ok to use a yeast cake for 3 or 4 generations.
I've heard 3-4 and up to 8. At around 4 the price compared to dry yeast is pretty similar so I wouldn't risk it.
I only use them twice before I make a starter from a new WL tube. Given good sanitation you could reuse them 8-10 times before they should be restarted but it's not worth the risk after 2-3 times. I use conicals so it's pretty easy to just dump the yeast after primary right to the next batch.
