The 2010 Great Arizona Homebrew Competition
Come enter the...
Damn, now I've got to go out & buy a counter-pressure bottler.
You'r joking, right Brewski? You got to have one, or at least a poor man's bottle filler like I have? You got to be pulling my leg.....
Now I have to go thaw out 4 frozen kegs so I can bottle some.
Awesome, I'm looking forward to it. Just have to figure out which beer to enter.....

I shove a Spring Tip Bottle Filler, minus the spring tip, into a copra tap and fill. Nothing to it, just try to cap on foam and it's good.
I look forward to tasing, I mean registering all of your entries in the competition.
Thanks,
Wild
Wild:
I was just looking over the entry materials.
Does the entry form really require the recipe to be included?
Also of the three send/drop off locations on the poster, which one is the best to use for out of staters?
Meaning two of them appear to be homebrew shops, so will they be storing the entries cold or what?
Would Norman be handling the beers any better?
Hope you are doing fine.

Brewchez,
Thanks for the questions and entries. The more information given to the judges, the better. Many times during a competition, judges will ask for certain info from the entry app as in ingredients, yeast, notes, etc.
Norm works at What Ales Ya so anything sent to his place will eventually get to the store. Best bet, send them to What Ales Ya. If you want them chilled, please put a note on the entries.
Cheers,
Wild
Thanks for the follow-up on the info.
I have not encountered the request for recipe info before, so it was just a bit unexpected.

Similar to Quadfire, I use a 12 inch or so long filling tube (standard 3/8" od, fits nice and tight inside a cobra tap), but I use it with a drilled rubber stopper sized to fit the bottles I am filling. Holding the stopper in the bottle tightly, open the cobra tap, and let the pressure equalize. Typically, it fills the bottle less than two inches and stops. My kegging system balances about 10 PSI, but I turn the pressure down a bit for bottling. Slowly burp teh stopper, and the bottle fills the rest of the way against pressure. Cap on what little foam you have and it should be good to go for what ever competition you are entering. I also usually purge the bottles ahead of time with CO2, just because it is easy with the kegging equipment, so why not? I have never tried to store the bottled beer for a long time, but after two to three weeks, I have not noticed any loss of carbonation, so I suppose you could. There are a couple of good videos of filling bottles this way on YouTube, so if my description lost you, try finding one of them.
Thought I would give this post a bump- the deadline is coming up soon. the BJCP page says the 17th, but the website says the 21st for entries. I shipped mine out today, so I thought I would remind anyone considering it to do so soon!!!!!!
Just dont enter into 10,20, or 22. I have those categories sewn up! LOL ![]()
