Time for boil what are my options?
very cool i'm jelous of anyone that has a converted keg, I just can't find one here, or if I do find one, it's either to much to ship, or it's up in Maine to pick up.
Yeah I got really lucky because I got 3 empty kegs for 20 bucks total. I cut the tops off all three and i'm planning a triple tiered keg setup. i'll be happy when the first one's done. lol. Just make sure you put the word out to everyone you know that you are looking for one and you never know. this guy was so happy to get rid of them and I was so happy to take them off his hands. I just have to get the 1" rim taken down and a hole drilled for the weldless fitting by next weekend and i'm good to go. What do you use as a cover or do you not cover it when boiling?

I only use a cover on my kettle until it starts boiling just to trap the heat and bring it up to a boil quicker. When brewing all grain you don't want to use a lid or cover duing the boil because you want to drive off DMS (dimethyl sulfide).

Where did you get the three kegs, sounds like a great deal.
I am looking for a new one right now too.
I just got lucky like i said i was talking to all my friends as we were having one of my homebrews and I kept asking everyone I would knew if they had or known anyone with empty kegs for sale. The third day of calling around and asking brought me to a friend who had 3 empty miller kegs all which he got for a 7 dollar a piece deposit. He didn't want to carry them back to the store and was happy when i gave him a crisp new 20 dollar bill. Little did he know I was so happy to have the kegs for brewing. Just ask around and keep asking around you never know.
Holy Wicked F!!! 3 kegs for a Jackson......That's a deal....I keep checking craigslist and ebay.....and the back of few local restaurants....

Where are you at... maybe someone else on here could find you one. I found mine at a local auction house and they had about six at the time.... They gave me one for free with the promise of a sixer when I finally use it to brew. I wish I would have grabbed all six now.

Holy crap FirePit?!?! You have a 55K and it gets your 8 gallons going in 10 minutes....I may only have a couple minutes then with a full 210,000 BTUs....
Just a follow up... I said I'd time how much it took to bring my wort to a boil on my next brew to make sure my boil in 10 min wasn't just a fluke. It took 16 minutes for my amber ale to get going and 14 minutes for my kolsch. Both of those brews had about 8.5 gallons in the kettle. So it seems Brewchez is right (go figure
) and that different companies use different ratings in the burners. So buyer beware, that $50 55K BTU burner might be just as good as that $100 185K BTU burner.
