Today's Brew Session
This is a German Lager I made today. The pics of the system are difficult to decipher, but basically there's a bunch of valves and float switches that enable mashing, and sparging without moving anything.
One shot is a close-up of the controllers for the whole system, the one on the left controls the heat exchanger and the one on the right the mash temp, the picture was taken while the system was warming up. The box in the center is the float control set-up for sparging.
There is also a picture of the Helles being racked to a keg to make room in the fermenter for the lager.
The pic inside the kettle shows how clear the wort comes out of the mash tun using this method. You could still make out the holes in the boil screen with 7 gallons in the kettle.
How many years have you been storing up for all that equipment? That's pretty cool!
Quite a few.
Pretty cool set up. That is pretty compact too. You have an electric heating element on the cart, correct? Are you using 120 or 240?
Yeah the element runs off 120, actually there are two, they're both in the square cooler on the bottom of the cart, that's where the heat exchanger is.
You may have posted this once before, but where did you get your conical fermenter?
Pretty sweet set-up. Hope the beer goes well too.
They're v-vessels, available all over onlline. I recommend morebeer.com
Do you clean it like you would a carboy?
Yes, filled with PBW, drain, rinse, Star-San, add wort.
