want to try lagering
I was on craig's list and there are a variety of freezers and fridges..........what size do I need to fit two carboys one will be fine but I want to be able to fit two because the process is so long. Also will this be okay in a unheated garge in IL for the winter? Will i be able to add an after market thermostat?
Any ideas?
thanks
depending where you are in IL, if it gets as cold as it does here in the milwaukee area you may want to get a dual thermostat (2 channels, heat and cold) and hook one up to a lamp. You don't want that beer to freeze and if you set the cold at 34 and the warm at 31 or so, the heat (light bulb) will turn on if it gets too cold and the cold if it gets too warm.
brew town-
Where would I get that lamp...........are they expensive. Thanks a lot................? How large do I need .........I have found several deep freezers around cheap.

You don't have any lights in your house?
I can sell you one of mine for $400.
is it just a regular bulb.........or is it like a metal halide or HPS....those put off some heat.

Just any normal incadescent bulb puts out plenty of heat to keep the chamber warm.
Just remember to shield the beer from the light because light and hops don't get along.
