what do you think
I just finished my second batch of brew. I followed the kit as directed. I notice bubbling in 24hrs. now 48hrs later very little to no bubbling at all. My Gravity went from 1.042-1.018, I don't think it is done fermenting yet but I am not sure what to do. I am thinking it is due to the temp jumping from 64 to 70 in 24hrs. Or it could be the yeast. The yeast had to be re-hydrated; I will wait and see what the FG is I guess.

sounds like your doing fine, finish out your week in the primary they rack it to your secondary.
dmpice,
I am having a very similar issue right now. My first brew too over 10 days to finish fermentation but my second seemed to have stopped by day 3. I took a gravity reading tonight and it is at 1.020. I think I am going to wait another 4-5 days and then bottle.
Although.... I tasted my brew tonight when taking the reading at it was still very sweet tasting, but activity in the airlock has all but stopped.. hmm
This was just discussed a few days ago. I think MariaAZ asked about this??
As for your quick fermentation, seriously, don't sweat it. My average fermentation takes 5 days, but I've had some finish in 2, and the spruce I made was still going after 10 days!!
Whenever a recipe tells you to use yeast XYZ, and that it should ferment in 5 days, remember, the original recipe might be using a smack pack, or repitched yeast, and at what temperature? Also, what was the OG? Does your match up 100%? Probably not because you don't have the same setup.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! You are getting too stressed over the small things. Remember Papazian's words: Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew!
When I first began well over a year ago, I was paranoid I would screw every batch up and I would never be able to drink them. I finally calmed down and just made beer. Not every single batch as been perfect, but most are very good.
Don't stress the small details. Just do your best and let science take care of the rest.
Now go have a homebrew.
Thanks for the advice I feel confident that it is going to turn out great! I took a reading last night (as mentioned) and it looked great smelled great and tasted great so I think things will turn out just fine thats again.

Another thing to consider, while fun to watch, airlock activity really isn't a great indicator of fermentation. The only true indicator is monitoring your gravity. You won't harm anything by letting your beer which has finished fermenting sit on the yeast a few extra days, so let it sit for 10 to 14 days, and you should be ok. In fact, this will probably help to clean up and mature your beer a bit better.
Norcal is right. Especially with a blow off tube. You don't always see activity. One of my last beers I used my batch of 1056 for the final time, and I barely had any activity, yet it fermented.
Let your hydrometer be your guide.
I rarely follow any recipe exactly. I change the yeast and usually fermentation days. I always go at least 7 days, usually more. It won't hurt anything.
Well the color is a little hazy. I think I will let it wait a few more days before bottling. The SG hasn't changed in 3days. Looks like it will be around 5%ABV. not too bad, I will post the recipe soon for this amber cerevza.

No SG change in 5 days? What yeast did you use? What is your temperature?
Still, give it at least 7 days. Seem to me that I once had a yeast (I forget which) that didn't show signs of fermentation for about 3 days.
