Will Irish Moss change the OG of my wort?

Making some Caribu Slobber for the second time.  First batch made back in January had an OG of about 1.056 without Irish Moss, this time it was like 1.048.  Recipe says it shoud be around 1.052, the only difference between the batches is the Irish Moss.  Could this be the reason for the difference inOG?  Maybe it is just a crappy hydrometer reading...(on one batch or the other).

I don't think it would change the gravity.  Your gravity isn't all that much different from what the recipe calls for.  It could be the amount of wort you ended up with.  if you are not at exactly 5 gallons, you would get a small change, or if you had to top off the wort after boiling, the other possibility is the wort and the top off water didn't get completely mixed.  I wouldn't worry too much about it, the beer will come out fine.

Irish moss doesn't dissolve into solution, so no it doesn't increase the gravity.  You have some other problem with your addition of extract if you went from a 1.056 to a 1.048 gravity batch to batch.

Thanks guys...I guess I assumed that the Irish Moss grabbed on to tiny particles that cause haze and that less of those tiny particles decreased the specific gravity causing a difference between the batches.  I guess I will see in a couple of weeks when I give it a try.
