WLP051 definitely smells like sulfur!
So I researched this yeast strain from White Labs after it took 48 hours to show any activity (no, I didn't use a starter... first time using White Labs)
All I can say is MAN DOES THIS YEAST STRAIN STINK! I've brewed probably 20 batches, mostly Ales, and never had a fermentation reek this bad. Usually its a pleasant smell. But apparently the WLP051 is known for producing the smell of a construction site porta-john on a summer day! Unfortunately, it's been very cold here in Maryland and the only decent place for me to have the carboy is in my living room! I'm making a Fat Tire clone.
