Year+ old Pumpkin Ale
I sampled my 15 month old Pumpkin Ale yesterday and was disappointed, apparantely being carbonated moved from refrigeration and out twice and making a 250 mile move in a uhaul truck since it was kegged hasn't been kind to it. It was a little cidery and lacked all flavor (I'm guessing that was from carbing it last year). Still drinkable but I've got plenty of good stuff to drink first. I'm going to have a small ceremony tonight as I pour it out.
i don't think ales are meant to age for over a year. i was under the impression that ales are supposed to be consumed in under 3 months.
Given the right conditions an ale could last longer than a year. I moved and had some other starnge situations happen to this keg in particular so it didn't last too long. It's pretty common to age an ale, especially higher alcohol or darker versions longer than 3 months.
Every ale I have ever made was said to drink in 3-4 months I dont think any beer or ale could last a year at my house lol
I don't think any beverage would last that long at my house either!
But, why are you pouring it out, you said it is still drinkable?
Yeah, I need the keg space. It was a pumpkin ale, so I wasn't going to hook it up until Fall, it's about 8.5% and 80-90 SRM, not what I wanted to drink in the summertime. I've got some beer that tastes better I'd rather put in the kegerator, I might give it to the college kids next door.
Oh, that's a great idea. I hope you treated them to your pumpkin brew as a Halloween treat. How did it turn out. Did they try it out yet, what'd they say about it?
