Anyone more prolific in Mead?
Hey All,
I just had to start a mead discussion here. I would be surprised if there is a group more prolific in Mead production/consumption than ours. So let's hear it... what meads have you tried that you like, dislike? Where do you get your honey? Why did Mike have to carry Julia across the road? We want to know!
While I prefer my own meads, I must admit to liking Polish meads as well. If I can't obtain a polish, Honeymoon Nectar by Mountain Meadows Meadery is a nice sweet mead. I also enjoy their Agave Nectar (think smooth tequila without the bite). They have several meads worth trying.
Cheers,
MzIce
I do like the Honeymoon mead and Pomegranate Mead. I haven't tried the Polish Meads yet.
I rarely see any mead for sale when I am looking for wine or similar, so I have not yet tried enough commercial types to have a like or dislike. I have brewed many meads at home because it is just sooo easy! I really like meads made from fresh harvested berries, like blackberry, blueberry, etc. I also really like herbal meads (see the herbal mead topic). The honey is so good at making some herbs more palatable, like wormwood, yarrow, burdock, etc.
I will definitely look for polish meads. Sounds delicious!
I used to just buy my honey in bulk at the grocery store. You bring your own bucket, fill it up, and pay per pound. But, I am interested in finding a better deal. I have heard that you can buy bulk on the internet, and it is significantly cheaper. You may have to buy 5 gallons, but that will be just the kick in the pants that I need to brew more mead!
I have always loved mead and methylgens. I obtain local apiary honeys to brew with. Colorado has such a nice diverse selection of wild flower meads. I must admit that I do love the Golden meadow honey I get out of boulder. As a usual brew once a year I make sparkling mead. I use lalvin 71B-1122. Best I have found yet!
