dry hopping" and secondary after 7-10 days

I brewed "Windriver Brewing's - Old Glory American Pale
Ale". They just moved to my neck of the woods from Minneapolis.

I only had one mishap. The strainer in my funnel would not stay in place so
I still have the hops in the brew. I didn't have any cheesecloth or any
thing fine enough for the pellets. I didn't think it would be that much of
a problem based on some of the postings on here about "dry hopping" as well
I plan to put in a secondary after 7-10 days. Will this result in a beer
that is too bitter? Please correct me if I am wrong and tell me if I messed
up or not. Other than that everything went smooth and it smells good.
Thanks
Albert

It won't affect the bitterness. Extracting the bitterness (aka isomerizing
the alpha acids) is dependent on the heat and action of a rolling boil. Once
that has occurred, the left over hops are basically already used up and won't
really have much of an effect on the beer. Basically, consider them to be
benign. They won't hurt anything.
Thanks
Nikolas

Congrats on your first brew. There's really no problem with what you did but
I "whirlpool" after my boil and use a racking cane to transfer to the
fermented so that I can leave as much of the pellet droppings behind as
possible. Then when I rack to secondary I leave almost everything behind.
Thanks
Moises
