First time making Mead

Two weeks ago I started a 3 gallon batch of mead using nine pounds of honey I just got from allowing two bee yards on my land (I get lots of honey)It is clover/alfalfa honey off CRP (conservation reserve program) I have never made mead before but have done some beer and wine making. I used 2.5 tsp yeast nutrient and y yeast sweet mead that I broke the nutrient pack inside and let the pouch puff up a bit. The mead must was at 1.090 I thought was a little low and was thinking of adding more honey in the secondary. In two weeks it has only gone from 1.090 to 1.060 so today I racked a batch of ale into a secondary and scooped out a couple spoonfuls of the yeast and added it to the mead. Is this going to help it ferment faster or was that a mistake and should I dump it or wait and see what it does? What should I be doing? The temperature all along stays at 69 degrees. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks
micah
