Making Balckberry/ganja mead
Well blackberry season is here and swim would like to make some Balckberry/ganja mead with maybe some mushroom magic in it.
But first
How does one make mead?
Anyone point swim in the right direction?
Thanks!!!!!!
Currently I've got one and half gallon's fermenting, its dry mead, made with three pounds of honey per gallon of water.
If you want a sweet mead use 4 to 8 pounds of honey to the same amount of water.
My method:
Bring to boil 1 gallon(4 liters) of water with the required amount of honey.
As it comes to the boil turn off the heat and leave it to cool.
When cool, funnel it into a sterilized fermentation vessel and add some fresh lemon juice and your chosen yeast compound.
Fit the airlock and put the vessel in a dark warm place.
When the bottom has a thick white layer of gunk, rack off the mead into another sterilized vessel, and fit a new airlock.
Put it in the dark again, and rack every few months until it becomes crystal clear.
The last step is to bottle it all off, you should be able to fill six wine bottles with one gallon.
That’s just my standard method, you can add any other ingredients you want at the first step, such as spice, fruit juice in place of water, vanilla, Cannabis...
Have fun.
One could always add the unmentionable during the last 5 min of the boil to sterilize and then leave it in for the ferment and allow the alcohol to do the work for them. Because mead takes a long time to ferment (3-4 weeks primary) and the alcohol content is fairly high, it should work fine for getting the magic out of the unmentionable.
I've never made a ganja mead but I've made a ganja beer and can give you a couple pointers that should apply to a mead also. Boil your herb in water a couple times to get the flavor out. THC isn't water soluble so you won't lose anything in that aspect. Don't worry about adding it right away either. As THC isn't water soluble you won't gain anything and it's easier to just dry hop with it when you add your beer to the secondary fermentor or the first time you rack your mead; as the case may be. In a five gallon batch of beer bottled into pint bottles a gallon size ziplock bag of leaf ground up enough to fit into a hop bag will work nicely in that an hour or two after a beer or two...
Wait what was I talking about? I don't remember but I'm hungry...
I would make a tea out of the ganja, letting it sit in water that has been boiled (but is not currently boiling) for a while. Then heat up the water again and make your wort with it (by adding honey). Then I would also add ganja to the fermenter, because its properties extract better in alcohol so as the brew becomes more alcoholic, more of the ganja's effects will be present in the brew. I recommend putting it in a little muslin bag, like a tea bag (you could also use a thin sock, but make sure it is clean, really) so that it is easier to remove from the fermenter when you are done.
I hear that the best way to extract THC out of MJ is through alcohol. I would let some sit in some everclear for a while (sealed) and then add that to the mead once it is finished fermenting. It will, of course, spike the alcohol content in the process.
Mead takes a while to ferment. It took my last batch about 4 months to stop burping, and MAN is it alcoholic!

Chris is right in that THC is VERY much alcohol soluble (also fat but not so much water) and you could definitely but some in some everclear and then add that at some stage in the fermentation or bottling process. A big bud or two in a fifth of everclear is certainly noticable after a few months as far as an MJ effect goes. It won't necessarily knock your socks off but you'll know it's there.
