Process of adding Nutrients

Hi Guys,

What is your process for adding nutrients and what exactly do you add?

I have been reading about staggered nutrient additions including Superfood, DAP and FermateK (?). Front what I understand, the choice of which to use is based upon Yeast Available Nitrogen (YAN) per unit weight of the nutrient. I was thinking of adding some additional nutrients to a mead which is about 3 months old.

Thought/comments?

Hi ramon,

As a rule, I add 1 tsp of yeast nutrient to my beers at boil knockout.

I add 3 tsp to my meads when I am stirring the honey into the water.

I use a basic, all-purpose, nutrient...they sell it at B3, and I think Tom sells it also. I think it is a mixture of DAP and other yeast fertilizers.

Enjoy!!!

Have you ever heard of adding nutrients to the mead at different stages of fermentation? I was reading that if you add smaller amounts thought the cycle, the yeast becomes more active and produces a better end product - quicker.

I am willing to try it, but I was concerned with sanitation. Perhaps heat some nutrient up with a cup of water or something to sterilize? What do you think?

Cheers!!!!
