Attention: Check out the new BKB Home Brewing Blog
Occupations?
I work in the auot making industry. we make transfer cases for four wheel drive suvs and trucks. i just brew for hobby no brewery plans for me. then again you never know what will happen!!
I am currently a contractor here in Alaska, I will soon be moving back down to the lower 48 and will be opening a home brew supply store. I am going to try to retire my hammer. I have given micro, mini micro brewiing some thought, I have a consumer base of about 27 bars and night clubs that would be open to keeping a local brew on tap. I will have to do some market research on that first though.
I'm a GIS Analyst for a large engineering firm. It's not exactly the most exciting job but it gives me regular internet access and keeps me out of ditches and swamps (two places I used to work....).
I'm a General Sales Manager for a Dodge dealership. Been here for 3 years, another 10 years with our local competitor. Great family to work for, glad I switched. Sales is a very natural place for me, and I like to think I am a student of the mind. My best friends are all in the industry in some shape or form, and we all started at the same place. the industry in general is at an all time lull right now, so what was once lucrative is now quite a struggle. Oh well we get through it.
The passion is deep and my plans for a microbrewpub are definately in the near future. Right now I am researching the successful ones and building my rough business model. Soon i will be searching for investors to present to.
Great thread by the way, however I feel kinda like we are sitting around the squad bay like in stripes.

I'm a Respiratory Therapist, got my BS in IT and couldnt get in / afford to start at a help desk job. so i suck snot and blood and help people breathe.
I'm a pharm. microbiologist working for an analytical company, that probably tests some of the drugs that brewchez works on. I love cooking, science and beer, so i homebrew to satisfy all of my needs.
I'm an inventory analyst for a major veterinary company based in the Great Northwest. Just started brewing a few months ago, but I'm already falling in love with it.
I also enjoy cooking, and my friends/family have often told me I need to open my own bakery. Perhaps I will open a Microbrewery/Bakery at some point in the future. Lots of really good beers around here though, so it will definitely take some time to develop something that is on par. Maybe a few of us could band together and start our own place...
Sorry to go off thread for a moment, but after this comment....

we now return you to the original thread......
I own a general contracting business in Southwest, VA. Mostly carpentry, cabinets, remodels things like that and I take night classes at the local community college working on associates degree. Before that I was a boat mechanic, Mercury certified for a few years. I have always been into cooking and making things for yourself and absolutely love beer. Heard about the Sam Adams longshot competition a few years ago and got really interested. About 2 years later my biologist girlfriend got me a beer kit for christmas. This is interesting hearing about the variations in everyones backgrounds and careers.
Well, I am a (ready for this title
) Inside Contractor Sales, Outside Sales Support person, for a small retail lumber yard/hardware store. We currently have 24 employees and I can honestly say, I love what I do. Probably the meld of my co-workers help greatly in that department. So, in a nutshell, I sell pretty much everything that you need to build or remodel your house. I have been with this only since November, after leaving a company 3 times the size. There were 4 of us that left the 'big' company to work for the current company. And we are in process of helping drive said company into chapter 11. (Upper Management is also helping it!)
I am also working toward my BS in IT. After this semester I only need to take 4 more classes. Right now I am learning Java. (one of my toughest courses to date)
I do have aspirations towards producing a beer good enough that someone would actually pay for it. I do hope to serve it at a 'different' kind of establishment, that my wife and I have discussed. This dream is still in the making and we hope to pursue it in the next 5-10 years.
